Author Topic: Mac Pro or iMac?  (Read 2295 times)

Hey guys.

I'm getting a new computer since my 2011 toaster computer is really being slow on some workstation applications (Final Cut Pro, After Effects, Unreal). I'm contemplating on getting a Mac Pro, which would cost me up to $7,000 (around the specs I want it at), or an iMac 5k Retina display that's around $5,000 (with the thunderbolt storage). Reviews said iMac is perfect with handling HD and 4K video (I'm getting really into film stuff) and works very smoothly. I'm also reading into the fusion storage and it seems swheeeet! The Mac Pro seems more like a heavy workstation computer, where time is money (2 hours is a big difference for people). I also think the 5K display would be great, since my family watches a lot of movies on my computer, and having a big screen would really be nice. I'm leaning towards iMac, since it's cheaper and from the reviews, seems to do what I want it to.

I'm not getting a Windows because I can run a Windows on my Mac easier than running a Mac on my Windows. Also Window's OS can't support 4K so take that PC masterrace.

Just wanting to see what your guys input is in; since I've heard a lot of you have got beefy computers. just want to make a cool topic too kinda

it does

it does

Oh? Hm. I got that wrong then. All the better though! :D

I think a high-spec iMac should be good enough for your needs. You only really need a Mac Pro if you're doing things high-poly 3D modeling/rendering or running physics simulations. Of course, you could build a Hackintosh with better specs than the Mac Pro for less than the iMac, including a 4K monitor, but since you said you don't want to deal with installing OSX on unsupported hardware it's not really an option.

or you know get a 2000$ gaming computer that can run tasks and do better things 30x faster than a imac or mac pro ever will

what does this actually mean though

what is a windows

What kind of drugs were you snorting when you came up with this gem of a sentence?

Also, are you aware of how everything said in that sentence is completely false?

don't buy a 2000 computer to run windows, hell you can buy a prebuilt at 500 that can run modern games fine so it can run movie editing software as well

you aren't even supposed to run Mac on anything but macs

Yeah, that's what I was thinking. I don't want to get my hands dirty messing with Hackintoshes.

I don't have a good history with Windows. They mess up on every single little thing. The only thing I think they are good for is gaming.

instead of a mac why not just buy a quadro and lots of ram with a windows computer?

if os is a problem you can always make a hackintosh

what does windows mess up on because I can use it without it messing up
when did you last use windows

I'm on Windows through Bootcamp right now.

I've never done Hackintosh and I don't want to. Having an apple is easier.

Mac desktop computers are overpriced by up to 50+ percent for equivalent hardware costs. If you care about your money, build a PC on your own and if you really want to, make it a hackintosh. But if you wait a couple months you can get windows 10, which is bound to be quite good.

I know they are more expensive then what PCs may offer.

I would rather spend some more money, lol.

That's what everyone thought about the previous ones, right? :/

no, they thought windows 8 was gonna be stuff because no start buttons and they ended up being wrong and windows 8 turned out great
