What causes people to be on the auto-ban list?

What mainly causes people to be put on the automatic/IP ban list? I've never known anyone actually banned automatically.

Assuming you mean the forum and not in-game

It takes a lot. Most people who get banned repeatedly, Badspot lets come back in exchange for buying another key, and that's it
The only person I can think of who got IP banned was a user who bought all his IDs with a suspected stolen credit card number

If you've caused extreme amounts of trouble, usually.
Having spammed the forums with shock material, as Betelgeuse did, is one way.
Players who have admitted to and have repeatedly attacked the Blockland Master Server, as well as the forums, and have used exploits and things to take down individual players' servers.

And then finally, you can just get to a point of being so annoying, and so consistently breaking the rules, that Badspot just gets fed up of you and bans you when he notices you.
And that also helps if you start purchasing or giving accounts to/for other players who consistently cause trouble or are on the ban-on-sight list.

IP bans are worthless, I don't think the "auto ban" thing is actually automated. the only thing it could be based on then is usernames and emails, which are both even more unreliable
I'm pretty sure it's a lot more figurative, and just means badspot will ban them as soon as he knows they've registered

Most definitely.
I'm sure Badspot does also IP Ban, just to be sure, but anyone who really wants to come back and cause trouble (which you'd really have to already prove in order to have even gotten onto this list) is more than capable of circumventing an IP ban. It's not all that difficult to change IPs.

It's less an "auto ban" list and more of a "ban on sight" thing. When you come to his attention he'll likely get rid of you.
