Author Topic: Comcast is despicable (TL, so dont come if you plan not to DR)  (Read 1297 times)

My dad is a firm believer in the fact that if you don't constantly switch your service provider you get jipped
this is partially true. but here is some massive counterargument coming at ya

We decided to switch from At&t and directtv after the internet box they gave us broke and the wireless stopped working, I had to run cables across the whole loving house to get internet, and since we only have one 75 footer it quickly became a point of conflict. after three weeks of it with no fix from them in sight ( we called a technician, he came and said "it must be a computer problem and not a network problem", threw his arms up and left ) we decided to switch to Xfinity and Comcast internet (please note that that was my only ever problem with At&t, the rest of their service with us was great and almost maintenance free for the two years we had them)
((they charged exorbitantly for this great service however, upwards of 170 per month depending on usage))
(((parenthesis)))
so all the old At&t stuff is unplugged on Saturday(march 14) and my dad gets on the horn with xfinity the same day for a special 49.99 deal locked in for a year.
He gets signed up and an hour later we are subscribed to Comcast, however they say that their closest appointment day is Monday between 4 and 6 and since this is reasonable, we all agree that two days without internet wont kill us and wait paitently for Monday's arrival.

Between Saturday and Monday my dad goes out and picks up the required internet box that isn't included in the service and costs 50$

On Monday 4 comes.......then 5........ then 6............................ ... you get the picture the guy never loving shows up to serve his brand new customers, great first impression!

my dad, pissed because he had to miss work for two hours for their sorry asses, picks up the phone and chews them out. They say they will definetly come Tuesday between 2 and 4 pm

Tuesday passes without a whisper from Comcast

My dad calls again, he had to persuade his boss to let him come home a second time and by now he's really pissed. They try to tell him they're booked until Friday but he wouldn't have it and they said the guy would be here Wednesday from 2-4

Wednesday comes and 2 goes by, then 3, then 4, so my dad grabs his phone and I left the room. after I came back he said the guy would be here in 15 minutes, I wont even try to piece that conversation together knowing he's had to convince his boss to let him sit at home and wait for the cable guy for three days in a row

At precisely 4:25 pm a dirty 20 something shows up in a five year old Chrysler town and country with a high visibility jacket with an ACI logo on it and matching on the van ( Not even Comcast?) he is actually very polite and gets right down to work but carries an air of inexpierience about him

I had to leave around 5 and didn't witness the rest of the installation but when I got home two hours ago
I went to play some PlayStation 3 and I tried the wireless internet, nothing appeared, so I went upstairs to ask if hed tested the wireless while I was gone and he said "there is no wireless" I didn't believe him at first that one of the only problems we had with our old service came standard with this stuff
feeling defeated I went downstairs and lugged the 75 footer across to the ps3 fro two rooms over so I could sit down and finally play the gta 5 heist update before I went to bed, but alas my perfectly good cable returned an error of IP ADRESS REQUEST TIMED OUT
I wanted to loving explode but instead I started frantically trying to find the answer to the problem elsewhere. I lugged the cable back to where I got it and plugged it into my dads vintage 2004 dell laptop running windows XP
it returned the same error. I walked across the basement to my computer (windows 8.1) and plugged it in and whola INSTANT INTERNET
I tried another of my ancient windows xp dinosaurs and it returned the same error
HALF MY HOUSE RUNS OFF WINDOWS XP DAMMIT
(just saying there is probably an OS whitelist on the service)
I went upstairs to the Tv room and sat down next to my dad and explained it to him just as he was trying operate the new tv system
Upgrade request after upgrade request flooded the screen as my dad tried desperately to watch tv, one of which was the fact that the stupid "deal" plan we bought didn't say anything about not having HD and anytime you want to watch a channel that is HD it gives you a choice between upgrading or watching it in non Hd

I left the room with smoke coming out of my ears and I could feel my dad's flustration too
I came back down to this computer to find my brother playing tf2 online with no problem, I kicked him off and did a speed test and got this
which isn't terrible but WAY LESS than the advertised rate, which I think was 100 mbps

in addition to all this my dad has complained that there isn't any DVR on the plan which he wasn't expecting either so somebody from Comcast is gonna come down tomorrow (hopefully) and fix all this stuff, im thinking of keying his van

IN SHORT:
COMCAST IS A LOAD OF HORSEstuff, NEVER BUY ANY OF THEIR SERVICES

Edit: cant get the pic to work

Oh god I could fill a novel with the problems my family has had with Verizon.

When we first moved in to my current house (2009), my parents used AT&T for their phones and the slow as heck internet. Well as soon as we moved in, we discovered that AT&T internet wouldn't work at our house at all and the phone service was splotchy. My mom could only check her email if she stood in the laundry room. When I was 14, my parents gave me my first cell phone as a Christmas present. Man I loved that phone. It had loads of memory, I could send texts (to some extent) from my basement bedroom, and all of my music fit on it too. Headphones were garbage, but it was still a really nice phone. Many people I knew confused it for a Blackberry, which was a big thing then so I felt honored.

We got our Internet from a cheap landline that ran into the house. It was slow as all heck and not practical for anything. Then my dad accidentally drove a fence post through it and found that it would be hundreds of $$$ to fix just to have our crappy internet again, so he got a contract with Verizon for a mobile WiFi hotspot. It was so fast that I was able to run Blockland online and open web pages (lol). We used that for a long time. The data was limited to 10GB/mo, which was annoying, but I didn't really have any reason for much data at the time so it was manageable.

One day however, the hotspot stopped working. My dad called Verizon and they told him to bring it to a store to have them look at it. He went to one store, stood in line for about an hour, and just as he got to the desk they were just like, "lol we're closed bye". Pissed, my dad explained that it was about 30 miles roundtrip to the store and they practically told him to stuff it and try again some other day.

He did. They we're just like, "Idk"

So he tried another store. "Idk"

After that, he called Verizon again to have them replace the device since it was still under warranty. They told him that they didn't make the specific model anymore so the warranty was void. They told him to buy their latest model. My dad was mad and refused and we were then limited to my parents mobile hotspots on their cell phones (which is what I'm forced to use today). We now have Verizon phones, which are utter potatoes (better talk/text service though).

Paying over $300/mo for 20GB data of which our unused data from the month before is lost. Can't switch companies because At&t barely reaches us, Sprint and T-Mobile don't have service where I live, and other options are even more costly. No online gaming, no videos, no downloads, nothing that uses much data.

first we had at&t u-verse, but they started raising the price way too high for some reason

then we tried comcast xfinity

biggest mistake everrrr

on-and-off service for a whole month and none of the SIX TECHNICIANS they sent out could fix it. it wasn't even a problem in our house, but THEY couldn't figure that out. problems were coming from their source or whatever, which was in another neighbor's yard.

then after that long month we just decided to get AT&T internet only and directv for television gg

so i can sympathize

Wow, why are internet companies so bad? Do they just live in a simulation where their heads are so far up their butts they manage to come out of their throats?

Do they just live in a simulation where their heads are so far up their butts they manage to come out of their throats?

holy stuff that's a wild thing to think about.

You guys' stories are actually quite interesting to read.

I can't really say it's a good thing that I don't have the issues you do, but do realize that I have had them before, and I can say without a doubt it is a pain in the ass.

im going to paste this video three times because it is so incredibly relevant

when we first moved into this house, (we used and still use comcast btw) everything was running perfectly in my room. even when my parents couldnt connect to the internet, i always could. personally im thinking it was cause of the wireless internet dingle dongle i used because that thing pulled through like a loving champ... except it was designed like a flash drive, and one day i accidentally fell on it and broke the little board inside

ever since then, i have never, EVER been able to get a solid internet connection in my room. no matter what kind of connector i use, (be it usb OR an actual card in my computer) i simply cannot hold a steady connection. ill be able to be on for like, 5 mins tops, then it drops for an hour. this could happen over the span of a day or even over the span of weeks, and then one day it'll magically connect, hold a solid connection for a good month, and then start being a pain in the ass again

literally everything about internet connection is the most frustrating part of technology i have ever dealt with. when it works you dont know why, and when it doesnt work you dont know why. theres no winning. you're the bitch and theres nothing you can do about it

This is why I install the stuff myself

Buy a modem and router and a few cables
plug them in
A few minutes of setup and you're done

no need to wait around all day for some dude to do it for you
no equipment leasing fees (which is an extra what, like 10-15/month?) for their equipment,
and you don't have to deal with the fact that
The internet equipment Comcast leases to you broadcasts a "Xfinity Wifi" wireless  network that you can't disable, that allows any random person, if they're a paying Comcast customer, to connect to and use your internet

(just saying there is probably an OS whitelist on the service)
I'm like  99% sure there's no such thing and that your router (and everything past it) has no clue what OS you're running

You were trying to put the result URL into [img] tags. Look for a BBCode/direct link option next time.

I've already done it for you:

literally everything about internet connection is the most frustrating part of technology i have ever dealt with. when it works you dont know why, and when it doesnt work you dont know why. theres no winning. you're the bitch and theres nothing you can do about it

One of these days we'll live in an advanced society where the campers in the depths of a forest in Nunavut get free 4G WiFi 24 hours a day. And the next generations will laugh at us.

I absolutely abhor it when people don't come to my house to fix things on the date they said they would come

i thought comcast was cool when they started offering way high internet speeds in certain areas but then i realised that they actually appear to be one of the worst ISPs in the country

like not just in their service but in their business like with the whole netflix thing jesus christ

So today, my family and I moved to another house. We told them previously that we were going to move and that we requested a new box. Upon moving, this airhead comes to our house and then tells us he cannot install it without the box that we had at the old house. We tell him that we requested a new one and that we didn't have it, it was at the old house. So he tells us he can't install any services. We call to complain and this lady tells us we can manually install it. We go back to the house, get the routers and come back to our new house. We try to do an "automated install" and it tells us we can't. We call up Cumcrust to install it, they tell us that we're doing some stupid transfer and they tell us we can't do anything until Tuesday, because not only did they say we could, but now we have to wait until Tuesday for internet. We demand to speak to their supervisor and they manage to get it transferred to another account. The best part is, we forgot to get the other box for tv, and we made another trip to go get it. Let me tell you that lady who helped us was actually very nice and did it all properly, we were just fed up with this. Upon coming back we call comcast to activate it, this jackass tells us that they're going to disconnect the internet today because apparently somethings wrong, so again being on the brink of screaming we tell them to get their supervisor, and they send a activation signal to it, which worked for the TV and another to make sure it doesn't disconnect hopefully. I'm at least happy its working right now and I'm not sure what bullstuff they're going to do next.

And another thing, now my IP address says its from another state lol.

(i posted this on reddit, i just want to hear what you guys think of it)

ok then i wont
afterwards, we get stuff on with a $600 bill because they had to come like 7 times to fix the loving service.

all for a higher then average americuck speed, we're supposed to be getting over 100 and its still the same as before. I hate them with a passion

afterwards, we get stuff on with a $600 bill because they had to come like 7 times to fix the loving service.

what

what
they charged us $600 for their mistakes

we're not paying it, they can go forget themselves
