Author Topic: Google cardboard worth it?  (Read 2041 times)

I really want a VR thing to test it out and that google cardboard thing is p cheap. Is it worth buying or should I get something better?

woah that's a neat idea, never heard of that before

i think you should try cardboard

holy shiiiiiiiiiiiit how have I not heard of this

i am an isheep and some things make me regret buying fruit-flavored personal computers

I'm a bit of a VR fanatic with over $650 dollars spent on VR gadgets.

i have one. better than the OcR imo. I own both and the Oculus grows old pretty fast. The cardboard does too but it is super easy to carry around and show other people, which is the fun part.

Pros:
Extremely high resolution, much better than the Oculus. (cause it uses your phone screen)
Can move or spin around without cords bundling you up. (main problem in the Oculus)
Can easily show other people or inconspicuously fit into a bag. (can't really carry an oculus around)

Cons:
Very fragile. One of the lenses pops out a lot on mine.
There is a little slit beneath your nose where all the light floods in and it is annoying, but not too bad.
They make the assembly look easy. Mine even said "Assembles in under 10 minutes". Take 0.5-2 hours to assemble, depending on skill.

Got mine for under $10. Definitely worth it.

The whole thing isn't cardboard BTW, there are some non-cardboard components you'd need to supply. They should be pretty easy to find on the internet somewhere.

Just telling you in case you didn't know already.

It all comes packaged together. There are some rubber bands and lenses, but nothing you'll need to supply yourself.

Even I have a google cardboard. If you don't have an android phone, it's pretty useless though. I learned that the hard way.

i think you can make your own cases iirc

it's a download btw so

If you want to give money to a giant company so you can get a magnet and a rubberband.

Another con is that there's no strap for your head.
