Bricks do not render all sides when pressed together so that certain sides are out of site. This is to prevent lag, but unfortunately doesn't work very well with modter. They assume certain brick sides will be totally covered, and turns of rendering. Certain positions can reveal this. It's easiest to just fidget around with it, or to make sure it is on a firm grid.
