Author Topic: Reading Thread (AKA Educate Yourself cigaretteet)  (Read 1190 times)

I'm all for people reading books and exposing themselves to new ideas, and I feel that it's important for people to read and think about what they've read, because I think a lot can be learned from reading.

In just the past year or so, I've read:
1984 by George Orwell
To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee
The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald
The Brothers Karamazov by Fyodor Dostoyevsky
The Idiot by Fyodor Dostoyevsky
The Jungle by Upton Sinclair
Brave New World by Aldous Huxley
The Fountainhead by Ayn Rand
Atlas Shrugged by Ayn Rand
A Streetcar Named Desire by Tennessee Williams
The Glass Menagerie by Tennessee Williams
Never Let Me Go by Kazuo Ishiguro
The Joy Luck Club by Amy Tan

And right now I'm reading Lolita by Vladimir Nabokov.

If anybody has any recommendations of books they've read for the forums, I'll find a place for it in this OP. I personally recommend Never Let Me Go and The Brothers Karamazov.

Anyhow, what books have you guys read/enjoyed? Don't forget to spoiler tag your post if there are any spoilers about books!

I've been wanting to read more stuff that interests me, but I gotta read several plays/novels for English :/

oh god Equus, why...

I'm a pretty big fantasy/sci fi kind of guy, so i'll write about a few of my faves

if you like modern-ish fantasy i really recommend reading The Dresden Files. its suuuuch a good series. in the past two months i read through the whole 15 book series, and am now caught up to the most recent book. again, a really good series.

if you want more of a traditional fantasy, The Kingkiller Chronicles is a fantastic series. I'm still waiting for the next book to come out, the wait really sucks ;~;

finally, another series i really had a fun time reading is the The First Law series. the fight scenes are filled with action and pretty gory too.

I have never liked any of the books that I've had to read for school. They've all just never caught me I guess

I haven't really read anything for entertainment value recently. I'm currently just read books for a small group thing that I'm in.

HOW DO I EDUCUTE MYSELF??????????????????????????????????

I managed to finally finish War & Peace

I had recently read Stephen King's Misery, and was considering reading my mom's Hunger Games book collection.

Last year I read Fahrenheit 451 and liked it, personally.

Other than that, I don't do too much reading.

if any of you like science fiction read the foundation series (by the guy in my profile pic)

animal farm by orwell is a good read too

....
what if i said reading was gay

The Prince and the Pauper by Mark Twain

this thread seems like a thinly veiled chance for OP to brag about how he's reading "sophisticated" books

i read the adventures of tom sawyer + huckleberry finn but i disliked both of them

The Odyssey.

It's pretty boring, but it'll make you feel smart.
