Author Topic: Need a new graphics card  (Read 1053 times)

Well I have been noticing when ever I play new games on the pc the games are lagging because of the graphics settings and even if I play them on low they still lag. It might be the graphics card because it doesn't seem to be a good one. So my B-day is in a month and I stumbled across the best seller of graphics cards on amazon:

according to many, the GTX960 can run games at high settings and I just want to make sure that I'm not messing around with my computer so heres my specs:

should I get the GTX960 or not?

yeah you can, but do you have a powerful enough psu?

I'm not sure but from how big my PC is I think it should be powerful enough, I'm using 8GB of ram by the way (which can be upgraded up to 16GB of ram)

how many watts is your psu?

how do I locate this?
open up your computer
look for the big box in the right/left corner depending on how your computer is positioned
read the text on the big box

um I don't think I can do that right now

did you buy a prebuilt pc? if you did, it's probably < 400 watts, which is nowhere near sufficient enough.

are you sure it won't be bottlenecked by your cpu?

It's an HP Pavilion, I just read hp's site and it says the Total wattage is 300W

minimum requirement is like 400w so i suggest getting like maybe a 700w psu for it, i don't know. i'm not sure on how bad the bottleneck will be, but there will be bottleneck.

yeah uh, i don't think that a card like the 960 is gonna sit well with a computer like that. just because you can buy an expensive GPU doesn't mean you should

iirc there's also the question of if it'll work with your mobo or if your case can even fit it.

Then what Graphics card could I get that is decent enough to run games on high settings that I can avoid the bottleneck?

what games do you like to play or want to play? if you want to play triple-a titles like battlefield, a gtx 760 will do just fine, but you will still need to upgrade your psu to like a 600w.

actually now that i think about it, the 760 will bottlneck a bit. try 750 ti, great budget gpu.
