So if you live in Oklahoma or maybe some parts of texas, you may know about the Annual Medieval fair my town hosts every year. I've been told its the second largest in the world, but i'm not buying it. Its huge though, and you never know what you'll find. I went today, and saw

as well as many many people in actual time appropriate costumes.

Its an interesting fair, with plenty of stuff to see and buy. Any of your towns have a medieval fair?

I really want to attend one of these.

We don't have medieval fairs here, because that's still what the UK is like.

Be prepared for all the cosplayers, women in barely legal clothing (some dudes in the same boat) and a lot of strange smells. But its a lot of fun if you can get to one

I've gone to a renaissance fair once it, was not as fun as I thought it might be.

how easy would you say it is to get some tail at these nerd fests?

it would be awkward as forget showing up to a medieval fair as the only doctor who but the fact that you saw three and there were an indefinite amount of doctor whos in one medieval fair is killing me right now

you'd have better luck at a furry convention

LA has a Rennaisance Fair every year. My family and I went last year and we had a ton of fun.

we have a renaissance faire in crownsville here

Ive been to multiple renaissance fairs and i can definitely say ive never seen anyone dressing up as those people. Renaissance fairs are lots of fun

The first time I went to a renaissance fair, I went to go see the jousting competition. The competitors proceeded to joust, get of their horses, and sword fight. One of the knights hit the other guy in the head with a shield, and you could hear it for miles around.

now that i think about it, there's one near carver

It's kind of a shame actually that this sort of thing is uncommon in the UK, since we actually, you know, have the history and historical locations for it.

Closest you can get is a lot of English Heritage/National Trust castles will do their own events and things, where they might show actual archery/knight-combat reenactments.

If towns and villages got into doing them it would be great. Depending on where you are in the country it's not all that difficult to find old castles/forts/ruins either, and there are still lots of thatch-roof cottages and Tudor-style houses around, which would really help with the atmosphere.

Haha my dad was just talking to me about the lack of UK Ren/Medeival fairs, because a UK coworker was visiting the US and they were having a conversation about stuff and that popped up. I'm surprised myself.
