Exercise involves any activity that puts strain on the muscles
Carry 5 heavy pieces of wood and tell me there is no strain
Carrying something isn't really doing anything for your muscles. Damaging them after a certain point, maybe. Do you know what actual exercise is?

Exercise is about burning of calories and such you don't necessarily need to build muscle for it to count as exercise although that happens to be a by product of most exercises

For instance yoga is an exercise that does not build muscle mass but instead increases flexibility
