Author Topic: Alright, so can we talk about annoying SJWs for a second?  (Read 9285 times)

Now, I don't know exactly what definition of social justice you guys want to use, but I'm going to stick with the one used by the Green Party because I think it works pretty well with the tumblr sjws we see.

Issues like women's rights (including reproductive rights), social and economic equality, violence and oppression, racial discrimination are ALL important to discuss. These are core issues to the social justice cause, and I do think that these are good discussions to have. People, on all sides, want women to have rights and they want to end oppression and discrimination.

Yes, these are good causes. I'm just curious what social justice is doing about men's issues like genital mutilation, rape/loveual assault (including prison rape) and domestic violence, the draft, child custody, and divorce laws.

Obviously, the cause of social justice is good, as it really does aim to make people happier.

Yes, in theory it is a great cause, but unfortunately there are many morons loving it up.

The first of these then that I think is important to talk about is women's rights.

I absolutely agree that women should have the same rights as men, but in western countries, what rights do men have that women don't?

In lots of ways, most people (aka non-sjws) agree with most elements of this. BUT, people are resistant to discussion about the wage gap

On average, women earn less than men. That is, they take lower-paying jobs, part-time work, and/or benefits that make up for a lower-paying job.

http://www.consad.com/content/reports/Gender%20Wage%20Gap%20Final%20Report.pdf

"Although additional research in this area is clearly needed, this study leads to the unambiguous conclusion that the differences in the compensation of men and women are the result of a multitude of factors and that the raw wage gap should not be used as the basis to justify corrective action. Indeed, there may be nothing to correct. The differences in raw wages may be almost entirely the result of the individual choices being made by both male and female workers."

discrimination

where and how

and consent

I'm pretty sure most people know what consent is and is not. The whole "teach men not to rape" thing is handicapped because rapists are still going to rape. They know it's morally wrong and against the law, but they do it anyway. It's like saying "don't tell me to lock my doors, teach people not to steal". Obviously, it's wrong to rape and obviously it's wrong to steal, but there are preemptive measures one can take to not be raped or stolen from. It's also assuming that men are already inclined to do that. It's like saying "teach black people not to steal".

For all three of these things, it's because people don't personally see them as a problem and as such don't understand the concern.

Quit assuming you know what and how everyone thinks.

I do know, however, that many people are misinformed on the issues of consent and loveual education.

I'm pretty sure most people know what constitutes consent. Like I said, rapists will still rape. Thieves will still steal. Murders will still murder.

I do agree that love education is poor, though.

That is, the social ideas that we have about loveual harassment and rape are still dangerous to many people, and many people don't want to talk about rape as an issue.

What "social ideas"? You mean that everyone knows rape and loveual harassment/assault are bad? What kind of world do you think we live in? Have you ever met someone who didn't think rape and loveual harassment/assault were bad?

Actually, I do agree there is a problem with rape. Everyone views man-on-woman rape as horrible, but what about woman-on-man rape? Or man-on-man rape? In fact, men and women are raped at about the same rate (though the majority of male rape victims are from other men, but 38% of male rape victims report a female perpetrator), why aren't there campaigns to help them? Domestic violence happens to women and men at the same rate, why isn't there a Violence Against Men act? Where are the men's shelters? Oh yeah, that's right, it was shut down from lack of support and funding. I'd recommend watching this video on domestic violence. It's a speech by Erin Pizzey, who was one of if not the first person to open a domestic violence shelter.

What about the deafening silence on prison rape? Why has no one raised an issue with that? Where are the campaigns to stop it? Oh, that's because they're men and they're criminals. Rape is an appropriate punishment for prisoners, even people charged with minor drug offenses.

In a lot of ways, I think that people dislike social justice because they personally feel they are not a part of the problem. SJWs will say things like "1/6 of women are raped in their life" or something like that, and people (on both sides) will misinterpret that. First of all, obviously this statistic shows that rape is a huge and terrible problem.

Yes, rape is terrible and a problem. No, it's not an epidemic. The actual statistic is about 1 in 500.

For the most part, people who are anti-social justice feel like they have to take this position to protect themselves. Statistics about rape and discrimination end up with people feeling guilty about something they did not take part in, which is why some people begin to assert that these are not issues.

Why do you keep assuming you know how and what people think?

All of these things mean that social justice is a noble goal to pursue... yadda yadda yadda

I agree, social justice in theory is a great thing to pursue. You should totally fight for equal rights and ending discrimination/oppression. Just be aware that there are many people pushing false statistics and made up things like "rape culture" and patriarchy and trying to pass off feelings as facts.

Keep pursuing equality of opportunity, not outcome. Just because there isn't 50/50 representation doesn't mean there's inequality. In fact, the more freedom a society has, the more segregrated it becomes loveually. This is because men and women are different and tend to choose different careers, and that's okay.

Seriously jacking wanker

Most people use this definition of SJW:

The Social Justice Movement (Which is a fundamentally good movement that strives for equality) has been utterly tainted by the "SJWs." They give it an extremely bad name and in many cases don't even work towards equality, but superiority. I don't think a single person here is denying that racism, loveism, and stuff like that is important to get rid of. All of these things exist, but in the US and Canada, it's been significantly reduced thanks to raised awareness on these issues. There are still lots and lots of people who are tribal, loveist, and discriminate based on loveual orientation. However these issues are almost entirely on a personal (1-to-1) basis, or in other words, individuals being starfishs to other individuals. There may still be some racism in the police force even, but all in all gender, race and orientation equality is at an all time high, especially with gay marriage being legalized in more and more states. I personally think that there is little to no widespread systemic oppression of women in the US and Canada that many SJWs and femenists claim.

The wage gap does also exist, however not in the way that most SJWs seem to think it does. It does not exist in terms of women making different pay in the same job, it's that women don't have all the same jobs as men. This is because the statistic was very naively calculated, they took the overall average pay for all females and compared it to the overall average pay for all males. There are significantly more men in positions of higher-up power, like executive and CEO positions, than women, which is the main reason for the large 20% gap between overall pay. In fact, the worlds top 9 billionaires are all men. The 10th is a woman. I personally think that's what people really need to be talking about.

Now, cultural appropriation. Cultural appropriation is the idea that cultures cannot intersect or use ideas and things that are part of other cultures. ESPECIALLY WHITE PEOPLE. This appears to have started from either people using parts of other cultures to be tribal towards them, or the historical significance of cultural assimilation that the Europeans were so infamous for. However there's a disctinction that they've failed to make, and that's that there's a difference between being a part of another culture and using it to be tribal, or trying to assimilate that culture. They claim that ANY use of another culture is tribal and extremely offensive when really it's only if you're using it in a tribal or offensive way. Even the definition itself implies something rather absurd. The definition of "appropriate" means "To take possession of or make use of exclusively for oneself, often without permission" which seems to imply that you need to ask someone of that culture first before you be a part of their culture.

Here's a good example that shows its absurdity. White people cannot play or compose jazz music. Jazz music is a part of the African American culture, that's where it originated, therefore a white person cannot play jazz, even if they love the music and want nothing but to make beautiful music they cannot be a part of it simply because it is a part of another culture. This kind of mindset would lead to countless things being literally segregated by culture, which is why the idea as a whole is utter trash.

I took the time to read this whole thing, it was a good topic. Worth reading, being that culture, you are going to get that from people who think they are defending other cultures even though they should butt out.
