Author Topic: SIN - A converted chapel nightclub  (Read 3811 times)

First of all, this be my first post as of being admin approved, so hello everyone. I've been on Blockland for the last couple of days after my younger brother stumbled across it. Talking of which, If you come across "Sniff" on the online servers with the clan tags I am and sBro, it's my brother and you can regard him as an annoying spammy noob, but please don't permaban him as we share the account key. It would block the sane half of the account - me.

Onto topic, I created this nightclub originally on a rip of Beta City with another friend I showed the game to. It was his first attempt at building and we both decided to make a nightclub, just for the hell of it. He made a rather 'colourful' replica of a local club near where we live, and I based my idea on the "Confession" club in a game called Vampire the Masquerade.

Essentially it's a chapel on the exterior, with blood red windows and a modern refit, complete with a chandalier, bar, seating area and a reception desk. Oh, and a dance floor encrusted with an upside down cross! Woop

I'm thinking about using this as part of an application for MotE, as since joining the server I've met quite a nice bunch of people there and I love the quality of their work, taking inspiration, and generally using the positive sane atmosphere to better aid in my own work.

You may be able to get a first hand tour of the structure in the new city me and my friend Arndreth are making. The server is usually called "City Build - Semi-private Construction" but may vary. The city is all our own work with the exception of the odd structure contributed by various members who joined us. One guy called Adam (had numbers after his name) started work on a town hall, but in my opinion looked far more like a car showroom and has been adjusted as such.

Without further adue, here are a few screenshots of the club.

Any opinions welcome!

It has quite a resemblance to Azazel's castle. Any thoughts as to why this may be?

Hehe, well, Az's castle used nearly every technique in the book, so you're bound to find resemblances in that respect. There isn't too much you can do with a stone medieval structure with the risk of it becoming something else. I know it's built in the same place, same colour, similar battlements, but it was built entirely from scratch. I have witnesses. ^^ It's a nice coincidence that you see resemblances, I'll take it as a compliment. There was no copying involved mind, just thoughts in the back of my head.

Very impressive. I wouldn't call it a nightclub though, more like a satanist church.

This build just doesn't cut it for me, it's not bad, but it's not that good either. Thanks for the compliments though :).

That's a good point, and I'll briefly quote myself saying i was "thinking about" and "part of an application". Looking back at the build after completion, then comparing to other excellent pieces of work around. I myself am not completely happy with it. Although it took a long time to build (in comparison to my other projects so far) it still feels like there's things missing. My current aim is to expand the city which it is part of, and create bigger, better buildings. Sort of like a bundle. Everyone has their tastes, I seek to please more than a select few.

As a building on its own, and disregarding any application potential, I'd prefer comments on that, rather than if it's good enough for an application. I'm well aware that it isn't.

Thanks :)

I like it, good if you've only been playing a couple of days.

Ha thats neat. Good job for a newbie to blockland, you all ready show promise.

Very nice build! Like Face said, you show promise. :cookieMonster:

It's very nice, even when you've been playing Blockland for only a couple of days! Since it's one of your firsts, I'll give you a 8/10.

You also seem very mature, unlike some other Blockland players...

I hope you have a good time in Blockland!

Thanks for the kind words.

So as to not start a thread on an unfinished piece, I thought I might post a pic of the build I was working on just before this one. This may be more to the tastes of people who like extravagant exteriors. It was really just a first test at lots of ramped bricks. It looks a bit NOD templish in a way, and was built opposite Azazel's castle intended as the rival evil castle. Was a bit lazy and it hasn't got past this point. Although I'd like to hit it with the duplicator a bit, and center it in the room with a keep twice the height of these sections.

yeah, i agree. hehe. i like the build, minus the whole 'blasphemy' theme.  :cookieMonster:

your latest build is quite impressive though. great use of opposing ramps. ive thought of doing something like that before. :) and good with the lighting and fire placement. very dramatic.

it would look better in slate though. haha. electrical socket and shelves arent the most epic background. :D

like your stuff though. will be looking forward to more from you. :D

Thanks again, the black castle was actually made just before the chapel just to clarify.

Without having to reinstall Vampire the Masquerade (great game btw), I've found a pic of my inspiration. I hadn't seen or played this game for a fair few months, but I was aiming for a scaled down version with a similar vibe. I'd have loved to create walkways in the rafters or multiple floors but the build just wasn't big enough. I may have a crack at a cathedral version in the future, just to own myself!! ^^
