Author Topic: what is the best size for a DM?  (Read 1349 times)

when making a build for a death match, what would you say would be the best size for it?
64x64? 128x128?
for simplicity's sake, say "3 64x64's" and not "196x196"

help me out here please

Multiple factors including weapons, gamemode, playercount, preference, theme etc. determine how big the map should be. DM servers usually crash and burn pretty quickly when someone just builds a map blindly and tries to adapt everything else to work with it. Are you making a DM?

1x1 and hav two spawn points, call is kings if the brick.

6 64x64's i would say

before determining size or build
we need to know the following details:

weapons (projectile or raycasting)
type of dm (ffa, tdm, randomizer)
types of vehicles (none, land, air, sea)
playertypes (nojet)
theme (wild west, trench war, apocalypse, medieval, prehistoric)
conflict (cowboys vs indians, dragons vs villagers, zombies vs blockheads)

pretty much what ravencroft listed

then you use your outline to construct the build
its like writing a research paper

Just like what Ravencroft said, it really depends on the scenario your using the map with. Playertypes, weapons, and design play a key role in making a map.

quake weapons, nearly no cover, small map is the best kind of DM :^)

The deathmatch should be 4x64x64 imo. bigger is not always better but I like big dm's because you have more places to explore/hide/admire. Then again a small forest dm would be cool too. You should go somewhere inbetween but first you need to tell everyone what the dm is about.
