damage control is when you forget up and try to control how it affects your rep basically

it's like if a plane gets severely damaged, you try to land the plane in a relatively okay place that is less likely to kill everyone in, as opposed to just crashing period.

In an internet forum situation, let's say you recently got discovered trying to get nudes from one of the forum girls; instead of owning up to being a krusty kreep you go full-on defensive mode saying that it's natural for guys to be attracted to girls and say that it's not a big deal, then insult people for not being as outward as you are. This is also damage control

also damage control is not a fundamentally bad thing but if you're being a tryhard about it then its gonna have the opposite effect of what you want
