Author Topic: I have no sound on linux...  (Read 809 times)

Me and a friend got the idea that we would try Linux to increase our knowledge on the world of computing, the funny thing however is that I have absolutely no sound.

Things I've tried:
alsamixer in Konsole
pavucontrol (PulseAudio, basically)
sudo apt-get install alsa-base (did nothing)

What can I try?

For more information, I am running SuperX (made by Libresoft, creators of Libreoffice) and chaining with Windows.

Are you on Kubuntu? And if so what version?

he's on superx as described in op

Kinda off topic but didn't you boast how much better linux was in another thread?

Whoops, sorry. I was paying attention more to the fact that he had Konsole installed.

I'll assume it's based on Ubuntu or Debian because you have apt as your PM.
Did you try reinstalling pulseaudio?

that was a dumb joke, as said i'm just using linux as a learning experience.

yep, and alsa too. no sound still.

my drivers are realtek as well, and i've looked for hd audio drivers and found nothing.

I would recommend using a distribution that has more support in the future.

Try "sudo alsa force-reload"

fun fact. 96% of all linux discussion on the internet is about how to fix some broken stuff on linux XD

i did that too lol
you also recommended that i tried a -buntu distribution, i hate ubuntu. i will only use distros that are ubuntu based, i feel it's too simple and it gives me too little to work with. and it's also good that i have an error on this, as it gives me more opportunities to learn.

The other 4% is just circlejerking.

If you want a learning experience try installing Arch Linux in a VM.

But if you just want something Ubuntu-based that A: actually works out of the box, and B: isn't Ubuntu, then take a look at these:
Elementary OS
Xubuntu
Kubuntu

Hah. So I'm not the only one who has problems with linux. I tried to install elementary os on my laptop and it's forced on high screen brightness 24/7. No way to change it.

But if you just want something Ubuntu-based that A: actually works out of the box, and B: isn't Ubuntu, then take a look at these:
Elementary OS
Xubuntu
Kubuntu
Elementary OS: Pretty, looks like I'd enjoy using it.
Xubuntu: For lighter systems, not for me.
Kubuntu: Sorta like Xubuntu, still, it's a clone of Ubuntu with a different purpose.

What I mean by Ubuntu based is a distro that uses Ubuntu in its source-code, or otherwise just uses it and a few packages. Those Ubuntu distros you recommended are clones with a different purpose, like for lighter systems, education, etc... (just listing examples).

Sorry for double posting, but seriously screw this. I'm installing Elementary and then I should be done with it.
