Author Topic: Project Fi: Google's Cell Service  (Read 550 times)

https://fi.google.com/about/

Google's creating their own cell service now that runs off of existing networks. What makes it different is that it uses whatever connection is strongest at your current location. At one point, it might use Wi-Fi, but then let's say you leave for work and AT&T's network is now the fastest, it would connect  to that.

Also, it starts at $20/month +$10/GB, but whatever you don't use, you get back. I think it's 1¢/MB of unused data you get back.

Also, this is all without a contract.

Compared to European phone plans (I think, anyway), isn't this still kind of expensive?

Edit: it's only for Nexus 6 at the moment, sadly.

Compared to Argentina's plans, this is excessively overpriced.

Compared to America's plans, this is the best thing ever.

is it pronounced fee or fie

That's loving cheap damn

fie
like pie

also, its only for the Nexus 6, iirc its a combo of t-mobile and sprint
so don't get your hopes up just yet

1 GB for 10$
What

40$/month for only 2 GB of data?
What

forget?

I pay €25/month for 2GB of data and got a "free" phone with it.

Compared to Belgium plans, this is excessively overpriced.

Wait Nexus 6 only? I guess that makes sense because that's Google's line of phones but that's quite disappointing.

They didn't mention that on the page (or subpages) that I linked...

invite only for now, as I've said

good for you
people in america have to pay for a dedicated amount of gb's
fi gives you 1gb for $10 with no cap.

Yeah, I see now.

They will likely be expanding the line in the future, but older phones won't work because they don't have the necessary radios.

Not that I could afford any kind of phone service anyway, lol.

I'm not exactly sure what my parents are paying right now with our current plan, but back when we still had at&t we paid like over $100 for our plan each month.
