I'd also like to add this to the conversation. On another forum I visit, we were talking about the Baltimore riots, and someone compared the oppression of black people in the United States to the oppression of the Districts in the Hunger Games. One of the African-American members responded.

So having to work twice as hard bc of your race isn't oppression? Just because some coon doesn't realize that he has to do more work that he should have to too move up in a society doesn't mean we arn't oppressed.

If we're talking about oppression of a minority, that would be the enactment of several laws against blacks (such as Jim Crow laws and grandfather clauses) or the denial of rights such as freedom of speech, freedom of religion or freedom of peaceful assembly.

Just because you're in a rough financial situation or you have to work harder doesn't mean you're being oppressed.

I don't really get why you're throwing out all these contentions to support your side of the argument, yet you aren't providing evidence to back it up and instead telling other people to. I think before you post again on the subject you should try and find some solid statistics and/or articles to back up your argument. Otherwise I don't think you fully get the issue.

^This is a video of a peaceful protester who was arrest on camera which you could barely see because they redirected the camera lens. Now would that have happened if the guy was white? This was one of the videos i had saved to show some1 but im not going out of my way to find the articles i found.

Well, since we are currently in a debate involving racial issues, you should try to bring up whatever evidence and statistics you can find.

First off, this isn't the best example of the video since we can't clearly hear what the man is saying to the police force over the newscasters. Secondly, the question of if the same thing had happened if he was white is hard to accurately answer because it's such a complex issue, not the black-and-white "tribals cops, blacks oppressed" argument that you're proposing.

That's not really important to the central discussion. Are you trying to say the cameraman is tribal because he didn't focus on the black man being beaten to the ground? Are the newscasters tribal because they're more focused on the issue at large rather than what's going on on-screen?

it's funny, i always see blocklanders as pretty progressive (we're all young, we have access to a lot of info)

and yet when anything vs white people is brought up, even logical thinkin people say some borderline tribal stuff without even realizing it, and rationalize it with more tribal and classist stuff, even if said person isn't tribal.

like we've all read history, we've all seen the news, we've all read the articles and seen stuff with our own eyes - i think most of us would say maybe, just maybe, white people still have it better off than black people. yet if anyone dares say that, people jump down their throat.
