dont be a richard to your mom

Its not motherday here in belgium for some reason. Its somewhere in august here.
In the UK we combine Mother's Day with Mothering Sunday (a Christian event associated with visiting your mother church), so we had ours back in March. It's always on the 4th Sunday of Lent. It was March 15th this year.

But here's what Wikipedia says on Mother's Day in Belgium.
Quote
In Belgium, Mother's Day (Moederdag or Moederkesdag in Dutch and Fête des Mères in French) is celebrated on the second Sunday of May. In the week before this holiday children make little presents at primary school, which they give to their mothers in the early morning of Mother's Day. Typically, the father will buy croissants and other sweet breads and pastries and bring these to the mother while she is still in bed – the beginning of a day of pampering for the mother. There are also many people who celebrate Mother's Day on 15 August instead; these are mostly people around Antwerp, who consider that day (Assumption) the classical Mother's Day and the observance in May an invention for commercial reasons. It was originally established on that day as the result of a campaign by Frans Van Kuyck, a painter and Alderman from Antwerp.

So a lot of Belgians are actually celebrating today too, but some wait until August.

I guess I can complain here since its a self declared attention thread.

So for me, I've been out of town since Thursday here at my grandparents house in Illinois. Although I was not thinking about mothers day then, I haven't been out and/or been unable to stop for gifts had the chance crossed my mind. Now it's Sunday and my dad chewed me out for not getting her anything. He told me how horrible I am for not suggesting to take my siblings out to go shopping for my mom. Well crap, here I am in Illinois where I barely know where anything is and I was supposed drive my van (and my dad constantly complains when I use gas at the average 10-12mpg) to shop.

Yeah I do kind of feel bad, but I think his expectations were a bit overblown. He's continuing to act pissy right now. But I won't let the day escape further, don't worry. I'm probably to offer her a game night tonight, like I'll host cards or a board game or something. Gotta wait and make sure she isn't going out later first.

Mother's day for me is the 3rd sunday of October. I always give her a hug and a kiss on her cheek. Not much else.

everyone can stuff on setro as much as they want but he really isn't in the wrong here

ANYWAY, you should wait until things have calmed down a little bit.
Then, make her a nice cup of coffee or other nice drink, and bring it to her.
Apologise for being rude (I know you weren't, but just suck it up), wish her a happy mother's day, give her your presents and a hug and a kiss.

why

this

I helped make her breakfast and we had a card for her.

why
Because mom thinks he's in the wrong.
And even though he's not, it's not worth debating it with his mom and causing an argument.

Sometimes the best way to win a situation is to stand down.

i made my mom a richard shaped pancake for mother's day
she ate it gladly
