If it were most any other topic, I'd give it a shot, but I don't know anything about the riots (it's not really in our media, if at all), and I'd be researching it more than writing.

For research information you can watch all 3 major news teams(fox, cnn, msnbc) cover the week or so just by watching highlights of it and their views of the situation
