WHAT'S GOING ON?

Welcome to the eleventh installment in Sid Jairo's Europa Universalis! In Victoriuh, players will act as either westernized or unwesternized nations on a quest to establish the largest empire! Through colonization, conquest, or silver-tongued diplomacy, players will be bumping elbows on their way to the top. The nations of the world are divided into three sections: the Great Powers (top 5), the Secondary Powers (next 5), and the rest (everyone else). This roleplay will run until 1936, so at least one global Great War is anticipated to occur. The top Great Powers will be crowned the winners of this roleplay if they possess vast amounts of territory as well as a strong economy, military, etc.

As far as the three divisions of the world go, Great Powers will be consulted in international crises, receive the utmost respect when speaking to other nations diplomatically, and get top priority in colonization. However, they cannot start crises and cannot have more than one other Great Power ally.
Secondary Powers are considered on-their-way to becoming a Great Power, as a result, their conversations with other world leaders are also highly respected. They get second priority in colonization, and can only have one Great Power ally.
Everyone else is allowed to have as many allies of any sects as they desire, however, if a coalition is formed, a majority of members must agree to accept new entrants.

HOW DOES THE IDEA TREE WORK?

WHAT TECHNOLOGIES ARE THERE?
There are a certain list of technologies players may research. At certain instances where I feel it's necessary to advance the world, I will post a list of available technologies to research. Players are not required to research every tech on the list, however. Research whatever you feel your nation needs most and keep track of it.

You may research 2 techs per day*. Keep track of what you've researched.

*Unwesternized nations can only research 1 tech per day

Do not make your research secret. Post about what you are researching and update your nation post with completed research.

WHAT'S WESTERNIZATION?
Certain nations in history, if we're looking at it Eurocentrically, are not "westernized". Being westernized means to have adopted western ideals and technologies, something which many nations did during this era in order to keep up with the imperialist policies of Europe. As a result, unwesternized nations in this roleplay (generally speaking, if it's in Africa or Asia, it's unwesternized) must pass 6 reforms in order to become western. Reforms take 1 day apiece to research.

Unwesternized nations may still research technologies, however, their research rate is 1 tech per day instead of 2 techs per day. Westernizing is quick and easy this time around, so there's really no reason not to pass the required reforms.

RULES

1. Battles between players are settled through either a single or a series of posts by myself and the battle's affiliates. The players' choices in ideology and technology will influence the outcome of the battle as well as limited RNG.
2. Teching will be made public by all participants of this RP. Do not keep what you have researched private. This also applies to Idea Tree picks.
3. Map edits that are not included in the OP are not final unless identified as such.
4. Act within reason (that includes omniscience/metagaming/powergaming).
5. Trade is allowed.
6. You cannot sell/give away/donate/whatever territories unless you have been conquered or the deal is officially brokered by the OP.
7. Teching up will be handled on a daily basis. Every IRL day accounts for the completion of 2 techs.
8. Naval combat will be handled similar to land battles (the lack of sea areas is currently an issue, but will be handled in due time)
9. You may form alliances and defensive pacts and all those shenanigans
10. You cannot RP for nations you do not control
11. You cannot blitzkrieg other nations right out of the gate
12. Try to stay within reason of the era.
13. When engaged in war, you must wait for your opponent to respond/be aware of what is happening before commencing your next attack.
14. Player nations can be annexed. However, the conquered nation may still participate in the RP by outsourcing help from other nations and by organizing rebellions.
15. Do not personally insult another player for their actions in the thread. If you wish to berate them, do it in-character.
16. Do not argue with the OP unless the OP explicitly asks for criticism regarding a particular update or result.
17. You are allowed to enter "stasis" where the OP will control your nation for as long as you are gone (ex. you need to go to camp for a week).
