I'm actually now genuinely curious if something similar to Cosmic Ray Visual Phenomena can happen on earth.
Could be, but it happened on the same day my grandmother died. Coincidence?

Not insane, or a plane, or tears. Or storms. Soundless flash.
It was for  sure some sort of electrical phenomena that happened with your retina. Most likely jostling from the bike ride, causing the vitreous humour to bump or shuffle the retina slightly to where it stimuli the motion as light, causing a perceived flash.

Yes.

I'm certain you only noticed it on those days because you were left to muse to your own thoughts, and thus weren't thinking about much else, causing it to be much more noticeable.
They can happen quite frequently, but are usually the most noticeable when it's dark outside, for obvious reasons, and also when not distracted.

Therefore: It wasn't a deity caused event. God is too busy sticking tentacles in our necks for reproduction to answer calls for visions.

Not all planes shine red and green lights, i've seen some that have slow blinking white lights.

Or helicopters.

Your imagination? Lightning? There's a bunch of stuff it could be, don't think about it too much.

OT: Seems like a camera flash, from the information you've given

When did this happen? What state do you live in? I've had some bad thunder here in Texas. Few nights ago I had some Purely Silent Lightning. No Thunder for an hour or so after the flashes.

I live wayyy north. Michigan

Living far enough north it could also have been an aurora. They happen in Michigan, but they're rare compared to Canada or Alaska.

The Aurora are even rare up here. To get good sightings of them you should be within the arctic circle.

I think there was a time recently when even I had a chance at an aurora sighting. It covered the news days in advance and a bunch of people tried to see it. I don't know if they did, but I don't expect it again soon.
