Author Topic: US Destroyer (Brickson Class) *new turrets, anchors* !WIP!  (Read 3261 times)

USS Brickson

This is just a ship I've been working on for the past couple of days, which I've spent around 10-12 hours on and off working to completing it. I'm happy about the end product although its still not quite finished yet, as I still need to do the bottom deck. Anyways, I based it mostly off the Benson-class Destroyer, but it does have a few inaccuracies (Not the same amount of AA batteries, dual torcreep tubes instead of quintuple tubes) but I hope it still looks the part and is somewhat satisfactory

As I said before, Its still not completely finished, as I still need to do the first deck, but I think its good enough to start showing off.
You can rate if you'd like but please give constructive criticism.

Cool! Does it have an interior?

Cool! Does it have an interior?
It does but only for the bridge atm. The next thing that I'll work on is the bottom deck.
looks good so far
Thanks

the only thing i notice is the turrets look kinda blocky, IMO

but it's super nice, gj

That's pretty cool

I'll see if I can fix that, I can see where you're coming from.

Are you sure it's not too small for an interior?
It'd be a bit cramped.

I do think the overall building of the ship is good, but I would agree that the turrets are boxy and need a little bit of a rework.

Good job.

Its a bit cramped but I think I can make it work

My head almost touches the ceiling but not quite. I think the gap between the ceiling and my head is about a plate block.

I've done some work on the turrets, albeit a minor change.

Old turrets

New Turrets

Perhaps that's slightly better? I was basing it off of the Benson's turrets and they do have a slight curve in the front, but are otherwise mostly boxy. I also changed the top part of the turret a bit but you can't really see it. Tell me what you think.

Also, I've added some new anchors, I'll update the OP with new pictures when I get around to it.

Really fits the BL style, you could put this next to the default pirate ships and it would fit in, in terms of shapeage and whatnot. Size wise though, it is really really small, but there's a good way to gauge how wide the ship should be (kind of)

The barrel of the front-most turret has that red ring around it to signify where the barrel stops. If you've seen the movie battleship, you can also tell there's a little extra room in some parts of the ship (I'm referring to the scene where rihanna uses the ship gun to blast the alien off the deck)

Either way, you're committed and it looks good, so I'd keep on going with it. But if you ever make another ship, food for thought.

I did use the default Pirate ships as sort of a guide on how to build the hull. Awhile ago I did a similar age-of-sail ship with the exact same save. It also may have helped that I only used default bricks, so that may be why you're saying it would fit with the default ships basing it off of the style.

One of my biggest issues actually was that I was worried the bow wouldn't be "pointy" enough, which most modern ships have a a nice edge to the front; I think I did the hull 3 times before I was satisfied with the curve. With age-of-sail I believe it to be more round and gradual, and so I might have been stuck in that way of thinking.

If I would've increased the width of that point or curve, my ship probably would've been good width wise, but I was worried that it was actually going to be too wide. You have to know as well, that I only started looking at the picture at the top of the OP when I was working on the bridge, to which I realized I didn't make it wide enough. I was actually basing most of it off memory from another game I played up until that point. So yes, definitely will keep that in mind for next time, and thanks for the advice. :)

It's funny you say that

My best suggestion (And how I figured out how to do it) is to take a look at the pirate DM save that's default to Blockland.

That's basically how I figured it out, its sometimes trial an error when you're first starting out.
Paragraph snip...

That and what TMAN said helps for your first ship or for when you're starting out. I wouldn't even remotely advise trying to build something as large as Titanic for a first though. My first boat was a little skipper sailboat type thing.

Looks nice, the newer turrets give it a nicer appearance imo
