A few months ago, our staggering galactic neighbor was photographed by NASA in proportions that have never been matched before. This incredible photograph and video to follow inspire a sense of proportion: how small we are compared to the vast universe.

If you believe that there is no life on other worlds, perhaps this will change your mind...

It really shows the scale when you realize that all those tiny specs are stars.

damnit i wanna see the planets

"To consider the Earth as the only populated world in infinite space is as absurd as to assert that in an entire field sown with millet, only one grain will grow."

— Metrodorus of Chios, 4th century BCE.

Too bad the observable universe isn't infinite otherwise this just might be true :cookieMonster:

it was 4th century BCE brah

I still don't buy that the *only* aliens that exist out there will be more intelligent and more advanced than us.

Our existence was a very awesome set of near-impossible coincidences that aligned perfectly. Wht's the chances of life evolving on other worlds at a rate faster than us? It's possible, but I personally think we'd be one of the higher rated species in at least this galaxy.

We need more stories about us being the aliens, as opposed to encountering these super-almighty war-going beasts that constantly plague sci-fi.

aliens are not living beings that have their own language, weapons, and nations, it's anything. an extra-terrestrial bush could be an alien. some grass. an insect. anything living from outer space is an alien.

um
if other life did occur, it wouldn't have necessarily begun at the exact same time...

this really puts a scale to the universe
most of those stars in andromeda have planets, and there is clearly millions of stars in andromeda

there are also millions of galaxies

so there is a lot of planets in the universe

millions of stars in andromeda
millions of galaxies
those are severe understatements
