I dont know what it means in terms of comics
as in relevant to any form of continuity or plot

e.g. a fan-made comic wouldn't be canon because it has no significance to the actual series's story

Chill chex.
Please explain what you mean by Canon? Ive only read a few starwars comics, I dont know a lot about it.
Ok so up until last year, all the Dark Horse comics(and everything else from the Expanded Universe) was canon. Meaning it was part of the official story and they were part of what actually happened in the tale of Star Wars.

Last year Disney retconned almost everything besides the movies and TV show so everything else released wasn't part of the official story. This is so they could make room for their new movies, comics, books etc. and would be tied down by pre-existing lore.

This might sound confusing so I will just give you this. That link will show you all Canon things in the Star Wars universe.

You might want to start your collection with the new, canon comic books, including Star Wars, Darth Vader, Princess Leia, and soon Lando comics.

Thanks, this is helpful (unlike fox's last reply)
I guess the original lore would have to be used in the new films still? Like the early stuff? I think it'd be still cool to collect these, even if they won't be the same as the new films. I love the art style too, I want to get a tattoo of one of the scenes.

Only the movies are canon.

Disney can suck a fat richard, the real stuff is the originals, I hate how Disney can just piss on everything and say what's "official"

Where is the best place to buy these omnibuses? I've worked out I'll have to spend around £550 to get every single one. (~$935)

Disney isn't making any of the movies.
Lucasfilm is. They always have.

Well they own it so
But they're just pissing on the original stuff so they can jerk out more cash, I do get it that they want to have their own artistic freedom but it's kinda disrespectful to the original manufacturers

The original manufacturers pissed on the original stuff so they can get cash, just look at the prequels.

What terrible things have they done besides rewriting the canon?

When the hell did they do that?

So lucas comes to you and asks you to write a few comics for star wars, pretty much one of the most popular comic book at that time, so you do and you get paid and you feel proud to be apart of it. I know I would.
Then, many years later, lucas becomes a sell-out and the friends at Disney stuff all over your work and says "oh well your work isn't official now because we want to make some cash out of this!!"
You can see my point right? They could have made a sidesteps which runs alongside the original lore.

lucas becomes a sell-out
like you wouldn't for four billion dollars

Yeah except George Lucas(who i think you are referring to) didn't even care about the canon outside of his own films.

He was already crazy rich, he didn't need to sell out.
Remember when badspot was contacted by Disney? Pretty sure they paid for a flight to have a meeting with him, I'm glad he didn't sell out.
To be honest I wouldn't do it, somethings are more important than money.
legacy and respect, which is kind of ironic because that's what a lot of starwars is about
