(The term was originally a neutral term referring to black people.^[1])

I haven't seen this myself, but you have to know that this is a word whose definition varies widely from person to person, to some it means nothing, to some it's unacceptable to use it at all. You really can't place a universal definition on it because everyone uses it differently.

Unrelated: This is the one of the main reasons I haven't found a single rap song that I like, by the way. The use of that word (among other general themes that rap artists likes to use quite often) makes me uncomfortable in general, so I just don't listen to it.

agreed. you can't place a universal definition on the word that already exists, as setro and trinick are trying to do.

the thing about colloquialism is that the only thing that really validates slang is the fact that everyone who understands it agrees on it. Balsamic vinaigrette is not slang for spongebob yet because we have yet to decide and agree that it is slang. and monday has yet to mean lazy black people because, contrary to what you may believe, most people still see it as nothing more than an insult, and i am in that camp.

He meant there's a slang and connotational difference between a black man and a monday. In 2015, there is. It's not 1860 anymore. Some people still use the term monday to refer to all black people; most people use it as a synonym to thug. Sorry if you're a little autistic and haven't noticed the connotational shift.
