Insults are supposed to be just that: insulting. That's not a justification though, insults aren't supposed to be commonplace anyway. But the world "dumb" came about from people who were mute, hence one of the most basic English insults also stemming from a disorder. Autism can be an insult if it wants to be. It just shouldn't be.
