Author Topic: Optiplex 755 will not boot.  (Read 810 times)

i have an Optiplex 755 that has been having a lot of problems.

The most recent and worst is that when plugged in, it starts automatically but only powers the optical drive, floppy reader, and hard drive. The monitor appears blank. After about 6 seconds the Hard drive turns off.  The fans remain running. And when force shut down by holding the power button in, it immediately restarts itself doing the same thing.  Every once and a while when I plug it in it starts up for real but either A. Freezes/crashes, or B. The BSoD appears on Windows startup.

Also, sometimes it will startup and work perfectly until it is shut off.

That's not possible for me, I bought this one in hopes of being able to run games smoothly.
It replaced My Dim 8400.

It's most likely the power supply;since the PSU is standard ATX you can replace it with whatever. Here's a nice Antec for $40 after rebates: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817371086&nm_mc=AFC-C8Junction&cm_mmc=AFC-C8Junction-_-na-_-na-_-na&cm_sp=&AID=10446076&PID=3938566&SID=
EDIT: Is it a desktop or tower model? Because only the tower uses standard ATX mounting holes for the PSU, just so you know.

make sure to discharge the power supply and all of that so you don't get electrocuted

what does the BSOD say? like, error messages. you can usually find out whats wrong by looking up the codes on there

They are different each time.

doesn't hurt to write it down anyways. at least post it here so someone can look into them for you or w/e
