i think you're underestimating people a bit!

someone that doesn't supply content that's quality to a large amount of people won't attract those people as their audience. it's more than just the ebb and flow of the market and the ability to take advantage of it; people watch what they want to see, and if nobody wants to see your content, nobody is going to watch it.

kimon confirmed dirty commie

the ability to be entertaining in general is a marketable talent

that's why stand-up comedy and drama and the entertainment industry in general are things that exist and are successful and profitable

in addition, these people have to edit video, market, network, and manage their content.
Maybe marketing as a skill is worth something, but CaptainSparkles just isn't talented enough to deserve that much money. Even his highlights aren't anything special. If for entertainment achievement, why not give it to an actor, or producer? Or if you don't want to start with people who presumably have money, what about a notable improv comedian? It is seriously hard not only to step up on a stage, thinking on your feet, without the ability to edit out the unfunny, but also to have the guts to appear in front of a live audience. Versus sitting in a chair, playing Minecraft, and basically asking for money at the end of every video.

you guys need to chill

now he's telling me to suck richards, that my mom's a cow and my sister's a horse
>implying she's actually seen your mom and sister (if you have one)

i don't have one

generic people are born from test control groups, and only have one mother

the man in the white coat

All this arguing over a pizza.

what i do find fairly unfortunate is that the way youtube rewards quality content is a bit biased towards the success of things like gaming channels

it's hard to create something like an awesome animation or live-action series and actually make a decent payoff, which turns a lot people that could make really nice work away

because people value different things! there's a market for this kind of stuff and that's why it's successful. people are really passionate about both creating this kind of content and consuming it. that's absolutely a good reason for people to invest, there's actual profit to be made, and it supports something that lets talented individuals create the content they enjoy creating and lets their audience continue to enjoy it.

i admit that was a bit over the line but my mom and sister? really?
Sorry. Past few days have been extremely stressful and I am really not in the mood for the slightest insult.

So what?
That's no excuse for you to be a negative nelly.

And I'm sorry for the "corner of shame" remark. Forgive and forget?

I suppose if demand is high enough, they'll market anything. I just don't think these copy-and-paste Lets Play channels deserve much recognition based on actual talent merit.

This. I'd really like to see more talented animators get their start on YouTube. But instead we get Minecraft players.
