I'm still bummed that they were removed. Maps were great for exploring and building on. Has anyone realized, my staticshape freebuild was the most popular server for a while? It isn't because of the ping, or the admins, it's because there was a fun environment, a place to build in. In another way, maps can act as challenges, limiting you to certain areas sometimes, but the fun comes down to how the limitations effect the build, and how it makes people have a great time. I loved that one secret in the bedroom when you had to go UNDER the 'house' to get to the secret, because I acted like it was a secret base. A flat surface to build on is helpful, but not exciting. It's great to see we have a fully working environment with changable skies, floors and even water, but I'd rather choose maps over a flat land. Speaking of, that was already in v20. I swear, this is another time when graphics takes over the game's development. Woo, we have shadows. I was really excited when it first came out, but in the end, what's the point? Most people can't run the damn things anyway, and the game looks a little bit worse then v20 in off shaders anyway, so to people who can't run shadows in the first place, it's even worse. About staticmaps, the idea of using staticshapes to bring back maps is interesting, however there's collision limits, face limits and other limits. The collision is broken as forget and vehicles are useless on them. It's an alright attempt, but in the end, we missed driving vehicles around. However, with terrain, there's no way of getting it back, except from brick terrain. Oh yeah, remember, vehicles are stuff on modter (maybe not with the new generator) and brick terrain (mostly on steep slopes) and it's not smooth anymore. I still think the fact that ephi left the game tells us something. It tells us that the game is nearly not good enough on it's own, and with badspot taking out good features and adding in alright, but laggy solutions, it's even worse. RTB was made as loving life-support for the loving game. The game had absolutely no way of communicating with friends, and it had no public chat of sorts. Not to mention, the add-ons section is STILL unorganized, yet the game apparently is only good with add-ons. How the forget are we supposed to get our favourite add-ons if they're all dumped into one place? RTB was amazing in every way, but if you think about it, it was keeping the game afloat. without RTB, most of us may not even be here. I still love blockland, but I'm dissapointed that badspot took this turn. Hell, I wouldn't loving care if badspot abandoned the game in v20. I'd still play the game (if he still hosted the master server of course) only because we had a nice organized place for add-ons, making the game more interesting. Now, with that all gone, the game feels boring. Where'd the fun go? Oh, don't forget the hundreds of glitches and exploits in the game. I guess the game was broken since the start but people floathacking by MOVING THEIR BLOCKLAND WINDOW is loving pathetic. When I first heard that I was shocked. Remember when someone made an aimbot, then badspot patched it straight away? Why can't that happen again? I do know that badspot's developing other games, but if he really doesn't give a stuff anymore, I'd rather he hand the game over to someone else. I'm being serious, I'd rather have badspot hand the game over to someone else then continue downgrading the game. Actually, I'd like someone to remake blockland in a different engine. I would actually pay for that, if it was a thing. As long as it keeps the main fun of v20. Although I don't have much experience on programming, I bet someone out there is determined to remake the game. Someone. Trying to update a game on a 11-12 year engine is dumb as it is. However, we reach another problem. Blockland is a lightweight game. In v20, it barely lagged, almost all computer can run it. With a new engine, this may not be the case, and I don't want that to happen. I still want the game as lagfree as v20. If that isn't possible, I still won't mind. Atleast there would be an upgrade.
In the end, right now we have stuffty pixilated shadows and alright shaders, but they are not worth it compared to the fun exploration of maps and terrain.
I seriously would love if v20 became popular again, with a mac download, so we can all have fun times again
Either way, I'd rather have a new engine.
