windows has been updated to its latest version on my computer and the little icon in the taskbar still isnt there
i tried running GWX.exe and GWXUX.exe but they do nothing
help please

They will force updates onto the people using the home edition.

Windows 10 Home users will have updates from Windows Update automatically available. Windows 10 Pro and Windows 10 Enterprise users will have the ability to defer updates.

Buy why though, why do they need to force updates unless they intend to do something users wouldn't want?
I'm not upgrading anytime soon.

because the kind of people that would even have home version, are to handicapped to know how to computer, and they NEED forced updates.
ie; preinstalled on any and all prebuilds at best buy and the like

The home edition is for your grandma who doesn't know what an update is. So they'll take that responsibility from the beginner users and make it a more enjoyable experience. Can't see the problem here, every serious user has pro anyways.

yeah. (made up stats) like 95% of all computer users have no loving clue what they are doing. and will just get years of pending updates waiting to happen. many are security fixes and important windows stuff.
and most viruses now disable updating, disable windows security, disable windows firewall.
so you cant trust the user to have control.

i don't have windows 8.1 pro because my laptop didn't come with the pro version
i never had a choice in the matter

That's stupid if that was the reason they are forcing updates they could also have just had it turned on automatic by default and letting the user decide.
I don't have money to pay 100 extra dollars for the pro edition, and most of the features it gives you are just for convenience.

The language is a bit vague... it just says "will have updates [...] automatically available." Not "will apply updates [...] automatically."

What I'm more upset is Cortana apparently not being available in Canada.
