reality is of course, real

reality is obviously a virtual simulation, played by friends

reality is very much an illusion. it only seems so real because we are used to believing that things are real as it is. we were born to test, and for the world to progress. great thinkers are the reason we have anything today, and they passed the test

Author Topic: is reality a virtual simulation, an illusion, or just real?  (Read 1604 times)

for a long time as a child I believed that life its self was just a big movie, and everyone was an actor being controlled by an evil director named robert rodriguez.

i also believed everything on television, this is probably the reason i am making this thread

but then now, i think that reality its self just 'exists' to 'exist'
most people when talking about the existance of everything say "i only know its real because i can see it" (except when talking about god )
and 'reality' or this movie is being watched by more than one omniscient being?

woaeh...

or is it just a gaeme.. like sonics..

i bet its a computer program which virtually simulates the actual life, which is way beyond reach of humans

reality is indeed real

For all we know, it is real. It is literally impossible to tell wether it's an illusion or not, and if its a virtual reality, it's only possible to tell if whoever ran it explicitly told us so.

if you actually think reality is just a big puppet show, then you really need to be locked up inside of a hospital

"Reality is merely an illusion, albeit a very persistent one."

chill

if irrational numbers ever stop, then that can easily point to reality being virtual. of course though, irrational numbers haven't ended yet.

I feel like were here for a purpose which leads to religion.

But it could've just been science that lead us to us.

I am literally the only person (if not, one of the few) in my whole family who actually likes and believes in science while all others keep insisting religion is true and that I need jesus or whatever. But to be honest, Im not sure, but I am for science than religion but im not a full athiest.

Who knows whats true?

My head hurts.

science, math, and other things like that are just things we've made up to understand how everything works in this small box we call a universe.  you can't really say science is true since we only have things to prove science is true and real, but what if those things are wrong? what if science isnt real?
what if we arent real?
mom?

how is reality real if our eyes arent real
what if life is all a big experiment created by aliens that want us as slaves

Do you have a source that science isnt real?

DO YOU HAVE PROOF THAT MY CEREAL WAS A SAUSAGE THE WHOLE TIME?

In philosophy, what you're describing is known as 'solipsism'. It's both unprovable and unfalsifiable which makes it one of the more interesting questions in philosophy. It's not really worth debating though since you won't get anywhere.

I like this kind of question because it shows how awesome science is. If science is wrong, we will scrap literally everything and rebuild it from the ground up in order to accommodate what we've learned. And we'll have fun doing it.

gonna go out on a limb here and assume that math is probably real

I can safely say it isn't because if it did it would require an infinite amount of memory (and processing power) to simulate, unless the "universe" that it's being simulated in doesn't obey the laws of thermodynamics as we know it. Note that as far as we know, the universe itself goes on forever. It's only the observable universe that's finite.
