Author Topic: Connecting my PS3 to my monitor + speakers  (Read 713 times)

I wanna use an HDMI to connect my PS3 to my monitor. Sadly, my monitor doesn't have an HDMI port, so I have to resort to using an HDMI to VGA adapter. Thing is, I know most of them suck deez nuts. Does anyone know of any decent one that has at least 720p or maybe even 1080p? I'm willing to spend a bit, but lets be reasonable, it's a loving adapter I don't want to spend like $50 on it.

So ya. Plus, is there any way to connect the PS3 to my speaker system? I think it has a jack port in the back somewhere, the PS3 that is, but someone could confirm this for me.

I have one I used to plug my xbox 360 to my monitor. I will go check what it is for you.

ugh I hate VGA
can we just switch all monitors and computers to HDMI please

Only way you're going to do that is if you have a converter box.  You would be taking HDMI (digital signal) to VGA (brown townog signal) and on top of that you would need the box to in layman's terms, separate the audio out to lets say RCA (red and white cables) to 3.5 mm (aux jack).

Example

Edit:  one thing I didn't describe is why the box versus a cable.  The box needs to, in this case, actively convert the signal where as a cable will just passively push the signal along to a different connector.

displayport > hdmi
displayport supports 60hz 4K and it's wayyy cheaper than hdmi lol. the hdmi cable for my monitor was $40 but a displayport cable is only like $6 to $12

Cables may be cheaper but the devices themselves will cost more money to even have the ports available

HDMI & DVI is good, but VGA is useful for old monitors/computers. VGA also doesn't have 5 different variants of pin layouts (looking at you, dvi).

but op, aren't there any cables for the ps3 that plugs into the multi-av out that then goes to vga? for xbox 360, I know there are quite a few.

If there's a headphone/audio out jack on the console itself then you could probably technically plug anything with a 3.5mm jack into it and have it output sound

DVI is also stuffty, never seen a DisplayPort but they look ok
