Author Topic: What scooter should I get?  (Read 2137 times)

So despite remaking most of it in blockland, our Dutch public transport is sometimes late.

So I'm getting myself a super cool mega fast 50cc 30m/h scooter to do my daily 15 mile commute to the university. Now the problem is that I know jack stuff about scooters, all I know is that a 4 stroke engine uses a lot less fuel than a 2 stroke one, so I kinda want that. Do any of you guys know good scooters (it absolutely HAS to be 50cc or less due to Dutch law) you'd reccomend in like a 1500 dollar price range (can be second hand)?

Also general 2 wheeled vehicle thread.

Do you have a car?
No, I don't have a car license because I'm a poor student. A car license costs as much as a scooter license and a scooter combined here. Not to mention the monthly cost for insurance (which is ridiculous for a novice driver here, 80 euros/month for just the legally liable part), fuel cost (which is why I want a 4 stroke, for that sweet 1:170 gas mileage) and road tax (500 euros/year for a car, 0 euros/year for a scooter). The lowest net amount you could have to spend on a car here is 388 euros a month (436 dollars). Also write-off.

Also hoping to get 600cc motor permit at 20 years old, so I thought this would sort of get me a little bit of experience for that.

scooters are for dorks
get a tricycle like all the cool kids todat

get a bike instead so you don't look lame and get beat up

It would be a decent move to get a decent bike and try to make the trip. It'd also be fantastic exercise, along with allowing you to save money for a car.

But I don't want to get up at 6 to cycle for 2 hours before I get to school. Besides, I already have the license now so I might as well.

the only ones that look okay are the honda ones and those are expensive

I'm personally so happy I skipped the scooter gang and went for a car.

Scooters are for flower children. Carpool instead.

I was personally thinking of a secondhand TZR 50 but then again, I have no idea if yamaha makes crap or not.

So is a scooter just a low-power motorcycle? I thought they all looked like this

Here in the Netherlands it's a scooter if it has 50cc or less and can't go over 45km/h.

yamaha makes pretty good bikes
