Can someone please explain what the deal with Splatoon is to me?

pretty much all nintendo games are marketed towards younger audiences yet older people still play them
see: pokemon, and how much of a following that has
splatoon's following really isn't that different
it's just new so it's an explosion that will die down

splatoon is brand new
tons of game are this way when they're brand new

It's a fun and original game and one we haven't had in a while. Not worth going 'crazy over', but its a damn fine game from what I've seen.

It sure looks fun. Plus, they introduced a single player mode that is apparently pretty good as well. It feels original and refined, and I can't wait to play it.

It's mainly about covering the most area with your paint and not killing your opponents, so I wouldn't call it an 'answer to Gears of War'.

It's a new and interesting premise wrapped into an arena shooter. A lot of hype came from the people that liked that one squid girl anime as well, but the internet is just weird like that.
