I believe you all are misunderstanding the purpose of the entire thing. You arnt required to pay to put your server onto the website, you can pay to bump it to top of server list, and main page. if you dont want to be any part of that by all means, just take the free route and just have your server posted completely free it just wont be on the main page and banners around the website wont be displayed.
