Author Topic: Computer randomly rebooting?  (Read 1146 times)

Sometimes my computer straight-up restarts, seemingly for no reason at all.
Upon turn back on, the screen is inverted and an error message pops up stating that a power surge was detected.
Is it my power supply dying?

Btw, it seems to happen most when I'm rendering videos.

Just in case, download one of those CPU temp monitoring things, and check if your CPU doesn't overheat while rendering.

Well, what power supply do you have and what are you running off of it?

when i'm rendering videos, the computer starts making wonky noises.

what kinds of noises

Check the event viewer and see if there is any critical/serious things happening around the time of the restart.

It sounds like when your video card is being pushed, it draws more power than the power supply can supply. This could either be the power supply dying and no longer being able to supply what it should, or some other component drawing more power than it should. I'm not sure how to diagnose that.

It seems like a weird message though, can you screenshot it?

Video rendering is going to be more GPU based.
Regardless, most random restarts are heat related, so even in the presence of the error message he's getting, dusting out the computer should still be the first thing he tries

Is this still an ongoing thing? I mean it got old for me at least when I realized that windows 8 wasn't that bad, like 2 weeks after it was released. Really?

This. What GPU do you have and how many watts is your power supply capable of?

Just don't use it for a while
Let it cool down
