How do i get passwords to passworded servers?

I see passworded servers, and I dont know how to ask the server owner to give me the password. Is it so no one except their friends can get in or what?

Unless the server owner / somebody who knows the password tells you, then you chat get it.

Even if you were able to chat in a passworded server, they probably wouldn't give it to you.
