I'm just taking a swing at the radicals on tumblr who honestly believe thatsomeone who is a straight white male is the only kind of person who is capable of bigotry and prejudice while anyone else of color, gender, and orientation is incapable of such things. In my opinion statements like that deserve to frowned upon just much as statements "saying that gays deserve to be punished because jesus said so" because it promotes just as much ignorance and prejudice as the statements they are trying to counter.

Well Uganada definitely has large amount of people who hate homoloveual, but I don't quite agree with labeling a whole country anti gay for some reason. Hell, we even have progressive nations like Germany which still haven't legalized gay marriage.

According to Pew, 96% of Ugandans think homoloveuality is a way of life that nobody should accept in society. Ugandan newspapers seek out gay people, put their faces and names on the front page and try to get them at best harrassed until they run away. Sometimes killed. Not to mention the huge stink over a bill in which "repeat offenders" of homoloveuality would be punished by death. I posted a link to a documentary of gays in Uganda.
It's very safe to say Uganda is anti-gay as a whole, when both the government and overwhelming majority of citizens despise it to the point of violence.

Gay marriage and actual gay persecution are pretty different.

If the general public has no problem with arresting and detaining people for being openly gay I could only assume it reflects the people's attitude towards it.

That is quite a difference.

As for the people's possible mindset in Uganda and similar countries.. well I don't know how much how much Ugandans can tap into foreign media(books, tv, news, etc), but from the video you have the man teaching women on tv that gay men eat each others stuff like monkeys. To me that shows that there is probably an abundance of ignorance and stereotypes floating around in Uganda. When you live closed off from the world it seems like you become more closed minded and when you when you are more closed minded you are more susceptible to ignorance, at least in my opinion.

I'm also a believer in that that there are multiple factors to a large problem. Maybe things like religion, fear and superstition as well as closed mindedness and ignorance.

i've never heard tumblr use whitey, but they will use cracker or white trash and then, if you're straight and cis, insult you based on that
