I've been looking around for some intresting games lately but i can't seem to find any, Anyone got any ideas?

Mount & Blade: Warband is the best game ever released and the most open RPG ever

aight i'll check it out
there is a free demo on steam. lets you play for 5 ingame days and when i first discovered it i just kept replaying that dozens of times.

eh, i wouldnt recommend it that heavily. I played it around 13 hours, and i have to admit that while the demo left me wanting more actually playing the game was boring as hell. although i never reached the politically interesting aspect of the game, endlessly throwing your dudes against other dudes was fun at first got it got old quick.

Be warned: Combat is EXTREMELY difficult in Warband, but it is very well made. By default the player only receives 1/4th of the actual damage and that is easy but I prefer to play so that I receive all of it. Your men receive %50 of the damage by default but I like to set it so we all get 100% and then you have to strategize.

You gotta have an objective. I've played the main campaign for over 300 hours and modded versions of the game for hundreds more. Personally I enjoy mods that change the world so that you are playing in Westeros and stuff like that, but the main mode is still great.

I mean Skyrim is boring if you just run around and kill monsters and level up. You need to be questing or roleplaying or trying to beat the game or doing literally anything.

The game is pretty slow paced, I'll admit. It could take 25 hours before you are actually a lord and 40 before you have your own nation. Taking over the world would take upwards of 150 hours on a standard difficulty. But you can fast forward time, and honestly I just like to watch it develop.

Very few things are more interesting than collaborating with a dozen other lord about overthrowing the king and then launching the nation into civil war. Very few things are more satisfying than coming out on top as the king and watching every other royal gasp in fear, scared that their seat will be taken by an upstart warlord. Mount & Blade delivers an experience that no other game can.

I never played that game Vanilla, I've only played the Gekokujo mod. It's the loving best, I have so many hours on that game it's ridiculous. Think of a great RPG, RTS, and FPS all combined, and that's Mount and Blade. I highly recommend it.
Also, Fallout: New Vegas. Ultimate edition is $20.00, and the best RPG ever IMO. (Until F:4)

fair enough. like i said, i never got too far in it because i just lost interest.

And I would recommend to OP any of the Stalker games, specifically Shadow of Chernobyl because that's the first one. They're definitely dated, but I think they've aged alright. All the Fallout games are good too.

Currently working on a Gekokujo campaign myself, and it's pretty great. My personal favorite mod is A Clash of Kings just because the world of Game of Thrones is not only huge it's very interesting and really cool to be watching the show and exploring the world at the same time.

If you want instant satisfaction I recommend you find something you enjoy (Game of Thrones, Walking Dead, Lord of the Rings, Japanese History) and playing a mod that puts you in that world. I'm not even a fan of the series but it was crazy cool to take over Minas Tirith as an Orc warlord. Just seeing the locations of a series you like is reward for playing.

I'll try that soon.
Be wary, though, the Gekokujo soundtrack sucks. Like, bad.

whatever happened to bannerlord?

I would've thought it'd be finished by now

Warband is good with the DLC

This is just my opinion, but i would think that after putting 13 hours into the game it would have given me some kind of direction to head in. That's a fundamental flaw imo.
In the time I played I became the vassal of some ruler, got my own village, and got called into like 5 different wars. It never really felt very engaging, just a big series of "go here and get your dudes killed" missions. Maybe it's just residual feelings from other games leaking in (lookin at you, xcom) but I loving hated losing guys to easy fights, and left to their own devices the AI is completely braindead.
and one more thing: Why is it so often complemented for its combat? Sword and shield play was just annoying because I either never felt like it hit them or that i never did enough damage, the only way I ever felt like I was making any kind of difference was on a horse with a lance, and even then it felt janky and inaccurate.

I'd really like to know how to enjoy this game. I've already bought it and it's just collecting dust in my library at the moment. I don't want to mod it yet because I feel like I still don't all the way understand the game. Gimme some help.

Yeah the devs have been promising they are still working on it but we are getting very little info. If it takes them this long to set up a campaign world I hope that doesn't stunt modding.

Been in development for years now and no release date has been set. Only a few pictures and one video to confirm.

There is no goal to the game, thus why you need to seek your own objective. Same reason D&D and Minecraft are fun.

You should be focusing on your own expansion. Conquer a town or a castle and request it be awarded to you. Speak to other lords about rebellion. Conquer a large fief like a city and when he refuses to give it to you declare civil war with the vassals you spoke to before.

Like I said, it's a little grindey on easy difficulty but it really defined the genre of sword-fighting. Basically no game before it had fun and addictive swordplay and while some games afterward have done it well (Like Chivalry) they are almost all based around the core mechanics of Warband. Combat is very difficult in small spaces because attacks are interrupted. Try to pull men away from one another.

Just play and find your own satisfaction.

This is now the Mount & Blade thread.
