On 19 March 2011, 112 Tomahawk missiles were fired by U.S. forces to blow up a bunch of low level insurgents in Libya. A single Tomahawk missile costs $1,560,000 to produce. That's way over 100 million dollars spent in a single day. America's crumbling infrastructure is it's own fault.
In 2012, US bilateral aid to sub-Saharan Africa totaled at ~$8,800,000,000. Turns out, Africa is still loving starving. Feeding people who don't have food is %10 our problem and %90 their problem. 100 mil is better spent on space research than just mindlessly throwing at the desert.
I take it you are hinting at throwing money alone at a problem doesn't fix anything? if so, then I agree 100%.
Military: The us military does have one of the biggest force projections and vast logistics capabilities in the world that very few countries are close to replicating. Most countries only have enough stocked up to fight a conventional war for a few weeks if a week. War is an expensive business and will become more expensive as we develop more expensive technologies.
However the us has the money and capability to build and stock pile expensive munitions like the tomahawk. In Libya most of the European ships participating ran out of cruise missiles within a few days while US ships were able to keep a steady supply. The rest of Europe needs to stop cutting their militaries to and increase size and spending, or learn to make nice with Putin. Because I'm tired of having to pay for someone else's protection.
