Author Topic: stupid technology teachers  (Read 1544 times)

so, yeah, it's back to school for me. I started on the 3rd. i tried out going to technology this year because there really aren't many electives to choose from in my middle school. so, first period, technology. it's the second day and we're starting to get into things. apparently we're doing technology and we were supposed to write down a list of social media. apparently, she says there is a difference between one-way media, which is not talking to anyone, and two-way media, which is talking to friends and such, like skype. now, when we were listing examples for one-way media, she thought google was an actual loving person and wouldn't take it as one-way media. no, i'm not joking. did i mention she can't spell? she spells several words wrong. for example, she spelled 'standard' as 'standerd', 'bean' as 'been'. hell, she opens up 10 tabs of the same exact website she's going to be going to and blames her laptop for being slow for 'no reason.' she also said we were also going to learn coding. i was actually pretty stoked for this, but it turns out that all the 'coding' we're going to do is from a website called scratch, which has limited preset options you can choose from. so, a lot of us were really angry because we got mislead. another thing that she considers 'coding' is learning hotkeys for microsoft word and excel.  i think this happens with a lot of teachers though, at least at my school. it really makes you wonder how the hell she even got a degree in teaching. maybe she's just meant for math. she looks like she's 60 and has blonde hair. i'm trying to change my schedule as soon as possible to get out of this class.

anyway, discuss stupid technology teachers you've had
i may write more crap after tomorrow, i've only been in school for 2 days.
oh yeah im also changing my avatar so me and gabenuwell dont look the same

im still not fully convinced my media teacher from elementary school knew what she was doing
i had her for five years though so maybe im wrong

The only computer courses I have here are Keyboarding, and 2 levels of Computer Applications (Basically only about MSOffice). Thing is, you have to take Keyboarding first or you cant go to any tech level classes
And theres no extracurricular  tech activities here

My old school back in Japan had real good courses though, I wish I was back there, IIRC they had a CISCO academy thing there

>takes advanced computer courses
>teaches you what basic peripherals are and parts in the computer

thanks American school system

The only computer courses I have here are Keyboarding
I loving destroyed when I used to take keyboarding classes in 4th grade. At like age 10 I was typing at 120 wpm

scratch is coding, theoretically, not to get brown town but just saying. to me scratch can be a great intro to people who barely use computers/don't get verbal interfaces like a command line/text editor.

however, she should've said "intro to coding" because let's be honest, even though scratch is on the raspberry pi and all, it's not really a language but more of a GUI designer.

sorry about that op, hope life gets better for you :(

OnT: I took a video game design class and we didn't learn anything about real game design, we just played around in a think called gamestar mechanic, and then messed around in scratch (like you were reffering to). The teacher was really nice, but didn't know much about computers and just relied on external sites to teach us (in which I don't blame him at all because he didn't have much time to do anything with the crazy workload of the school administration).

Also, I took a multimedia class in which the only assignment was to make PSAs. (Which I understand falls under "multimedia", but it seems like we could've done so much more).

I loving destroyed when I used to take keyboarding classes in 4th grade. At like age 10 I was typing at 120 wpm

lel I didn't learn how to touch type until I was 14

why did you quote the whole OP

You won't get much out of the public schooling systems technology curriculum. Chances are that there's a local college that offers language specific coding classes for beginners/minors. There's also a limitless amount of summer camps that offer this genre of learning. If the time comes around and you're still interested, I highly suggest attending one of those.

Bockland is a better coding teacher than scratch. forget off.

No, I totally agree - it's just that scratch has a much more friendly looking interface for newbies to computers.

In scratch, it's all colorful with easily readable words and a cat mascot, and the thing that usually turns people off about programming is that it doesn't look complex (from my perspective, at least).

In bl, it's made of a somewhat hostile community, and the eventing looks cold and sterile, with harder to understand events for the player.

So, in that case,

you forget off.

literally my entire technology class last year was this except no scratch
we loving used /PAINT/

Lol, never thought of it that way.
