Author Topic: Should teachers allow students to listen to music while testing?  (Read 822 times)

Some people, like myself, concentrate better with their music and can get a lot done while listening to music. What is your opinion?

*MP3/phone with earphones or earbuds in

Personally, I'd love to, but too many kids would figure out how to sneak answers into the music.

They should yes, but the problem is that if you have a gigantic music library it's impossible for them to verify that it's all music and not stuff to help you in the test

Personally music distracts me when I try to do schoolwork, but if people work better with it on I don't see why not.

Oops I just saw testing in the title now. I don't see the issue during regular work, but during a test? I can easily see how that could cause an issue.

good in theory, bad in practice

no

its an electronic device

how are they gonna catch kids cheating if they say "they're just skipping a song"

not during testing, no. too easy to cheat.
during classwork or freetime though, i think it should be allowed so long as it isn't disruptive

this

Kind of related: my high school had this thing where basically every wednesday, instead of having homeroom for 15 minutes between 1st and 2nd period, we'd have our first period moved ahead a half hour, and then no homeroom between. That first half hour, instead of first period, it was just...nothing. It was still considered school hours, so we had to be there on time and everything, but there was nothing to be there for. And since it was still considered school hours, all the regular rules still applied, like no listening to music, even quietly with earbuds

It's "I couldn't care less" and no. They mustn't. It's distracting and some students can go along with the tune and forget what they need to put on the test to pass.
