What is Spelunky?Spelunky is a rogue-like. Rogue-likes have random level generation, which means each level has it's own "seed", similar to games like Binding of Isaac Rebirth, Minecraft, and others. No, I don't mean they're rogue-likes. I mean they have seed generation. No two playthroughs will EVER be the same.
What is the purpose of Spelunky?It's different for various people. However, there are a couple way people like to play it:
Beat the gameThe game has two bosses: Olmec, and King Yama. Olmec is considered the regular boss of the game, while King Yama is the most difficult, and the hardest to get to. It's simple: Get through the game without dying, beat the boss, and gain glory!
Get a lot of moneyGems, gold, and various collectibles await you in this game, and may be very challenging to get. Hardened players use various tactics to get the most money possible, and topple the leaderboards! While very difficult, it can be very rewarding.
SpeedrunThis game is one of the games where speedrunning is VERY possible, and can be easy to do if you've played the game for quite a while. If you've mastered the Teleporter, or know how to rush through without taking damage, you might want to give this a try, and attempt to top the time leaderboards.
Co-op/VS gameplayA fun (or enraging) thing to do in Spelunky is play some couch co-op with your buddies, intense deathmatch, or even online multiplayer for both if you use
Frozlunky. Try and work together and get through levels alive, or pummel, shoot, or bomb eachother to death and see who will come out on top!
What is Frozlunky?Frozlunky is a tool for playing various seeds (can be a string of letters, numbers, whatever), creating levels for others or yourself to play, mods (all dark levels, hybrid enemy AI, dark hell and ice caves, remove limit for runs less than 1:30, and more), Frozboards (daily challenge w/o 1 play limit), and, as mentioned earlier, netplay/online multiplayer.
To install Frozlunky, download it off the page linked (it's in bold), move the EXE somewhere you won't forget about it, launch Spelunky, and then launch Frozlunky.exe.
That's it. Whenever you're playing Spelunky and want to use it, launch Frozlunky. If you don't, leave it be.
