Author Topic: osu! megathread v3 - OP FORCED TO KEEP THREAD ALIVE  (Read 139313 times)

IIDX is cool, but that doesn't automatically make the skin good. Variable width columns are... well, pretty stuffty in general. I could see someone getting used to them, but eh. Doesn't seem very smart if you're wanting to play competitively.

pretty sure a ton of people already use it but meh
i dunno if i can trust ur opinion on anythin anymore after u thought tap+x was impossible lol!!!

in the end it's just play with whatever's comfortable for you
i always think rustbell's skin is absolutely impossible to play with competitively but hey, he's like one of the best players
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AhY2DBIKOrM this video has his skin and also one of his craziest plays
i do not comprehend how read skin

Rustbell's skin is, visually, very good for competitive. When you remove slider ends, "cut off" judgments, and go with a simplistic style like he has, it makes everything very easy to read. It's one of the reasons why, again, Aesthetic also makes for easy reading. A lot of other skins go for this style as well, too.

Two entirely different matters? And I didn't think it was impossible, just that it wouldn't be feasible in a lot of situations. And it isn't, since I'm pretty sure you'd have difficulty finding more than 10 notable people who do it.

Not like I really needed you to trust my opinion anyway. I'm only giving statements based off my observations and judgments.

rustbell's skin also does not have combo colors, follow points (neither of which i play with), but most of all it has no easy to see slider ball (as in, with a nice little big circle outline rather than a literal ball) which makes me wonder how in the forget he can follow sliders that aren't consistent in speed
also it's incredibly hard to see when you were inaccurate while playing with it which annoys me

actually it's fairly popular on the top tier, perhaps not for every map ever (but there's still quite a lot of players whose only playstyle is tobe), but it works very well for really fast maps that require high streaming speeds

That's the purpose of the sound, I'm pretty sure. I think that's why a lot of players tend to use that "pop" sound I hate to eternal hell.

not rly sure what you're talking about since you can't assign diff hitsounds to 300/100/50

in any case there's really no such thing as skins being good for competitive, cos top players tend to just use whatever they always played with for the most part
i mean a lot of them have moved to cookiezi's skin because it is very simple, but there's a lot of them that still use whatever weird as forget thing they used to use and they're still hella good
i mean look at hvick he still uses slider ends and just... idk his skin really does not seem optimal at all https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f7kuh_xz8qM

and there's the people that still use default osu skin and do better than everybody else by far which is just spoopy (see: riviclia)

my conclusion from this is just that "competitive" skins isn't really a thing in osu tbh

Probably done to make it less distracting overall, but definitely a little uncommon.

That's not what I was talking about. If you hit a note, and it sounds off from a sound in the music, then you know your timing was off. Especially on higher OD levels, this is much, much more precise than relying on osu!'s timing window, which, honestly, is wide enough to fit a truck through it, compared to mania and other rhythm games.

my conclusion from this is just that "competitive" skins isn't really a thing in osu tbh
Competitive skins aren't a thing, but skins that are made to be readable most definitely are. Of course there are going to be a few outliers with skins that most others wouldn't even fathom using, but for the majority, Shigetora's skin and others are just much more readable. We're all humans, and what we find easy to read doesn't really change that much from person to person. Somewhat off-base, but it's the same reason why sans-serif fonts are more commonly used in web design instead of serif fonts.

Loving this score.

if anyone can actually tell from that while playing any high-star maps then that's just scary
when you're already rolling at 99% acc and you accidentally get like a 100 that's just barely on the border of a 300 on OD9+ it's pretty hard to tell unless you see the 100 or look at your acc

generally you're way more focused on aiming than rhythm
it's quite unfortunate tbh since osu is a rhythm game but is barely played as such
this is mostly the fault of mapping these days more than anything else really
all of these fokin tv-sized maps with jumps mapped to the bpm rather than the song pls kill me

That's pretty much why I play mania. So many standard maps feel too awkward to play, and are made just to be difficult. Gotta get that PP tho.

On another unrelated note, 6k is always so awkward after playing so much 7k. My thumb is always itching to press space and it forgets me up :(

THIS IS THE ONLY PART IN THE ENTIRE MAP THAT forgetS ME UP ARRUHGUHGUGH Hloving LONG NOTES
