so speedtest says i should be getting like 20mb/s download and currently im getting less than 1mb/s downloading DayZ on steam

speedtest measures speeds in megabits, not megabytes.

i believe to find out your correct speed in megabytes you take the result from your test and divide it by 8

I think it also measures the speed between you and the closest speedtest server to you.
You might not have a connection as fast to valvesoftware's servers or where ever the games will be downloaded from.

1:  are you set to the nearest steam database
2:  are steam servers down or lagging
3:  are you sure you're still getting that 20 mbps speed while downloading on steam
4:  are you on wifi

8-10 mb/s on speedtest equals to 1 MB/s on your actual download

so you're not really too far behind

20 megabits would be like, 2.5 megabytes a second so if youre doing a lot of other stuff on your network while something downloads 1 megabyte sounds normal to me
