Well then.
That sounds significantly more time-consuming/annoying than just removing the license plate altogether.

Cameras detect the license plate and don't know what to do with it because it has no clue what the numbers are so it is sent for human investigation and no human can read that from the typical distance that the camera takes the photo. That's the thing. Otherwise, it would be completely useless.

The same thing should surely happen when a camera picks up a car with no license plate though.
Not that it really makes a difference. It's just an approach I wouldn't have considered.

No, I'm friends with the local police and in one of the times I went to snack with them at the station, one of them was looking at the camera reports. The camera checks for a plate. If it doesn't have the plate, the nearest station where the car is transiting is warned. If it does have it, it attempts at getting the numbers. If it can't get the numbers, it is sent to all of the stations of the area and five officers have to input the characters on the plate. Five officers from different stations because of corruption reasons.

forget da police

Why are you friends with the police?

Because I became friends with a few officers? Don't you people do that?

Where I live, people don't really go out of their way to hang out with the police. But I'm jealous of those Crown Victorias though. (but I own a CV so wtf)

The two aren't mutually exclusive

I really don't why this is a problem. I sometimes head to the station around 5pm with a dozen of croissants to eat and chat. They're people too, you know.
