The same thing should surely happen when a camera picks up a car with no license plate though.
Not that it really makes a difference. It's just an approach I wouldn't have considered.
No, I'm friends with the local police and in one of the times I went to snack with them at the station, one of them was looking at the camera reports. The camera checks for a plate. If it doesn't have the plate, the nearest station where the car is transiting is warned. If it does have it, it attempts at getting the numbers. If it can't get the numbers, it is sent to all of the stations of the area and five officers have to input the characters on the plate. Five officers from different stations because of corruption reasons.
