How come there are so many Blocklanders with really awkward parents?
We've had loads of topics over the years about parents who don't let their kids use computers at all, or for like 20 minutes a day, or just throw them out over nothing.

It's such an alien thing to me.

I talked it out calmly with my dad after a month, despite what happened anyways. Im not really the type of person to hold a long lasting grudge lol

That's good for you. I prefer the 'emotionally curb-stomp' method of conflict resolution, but that's just me.

Thats cause your British, this is a common American parenting style. My parents were like this until I turned 14 then things magically changed.

the sad part is it really is common. my parents fortunately aren't really strict on computer usage. they just gave me the run of the mill speech on not giving out my personal information and not talking to strangers and then let me (mostly) do what i wanted. compared to a lot of my friends, i generally had the least amount of supervision when i was younger. my parents dont even ask what im doing on the computer anymore, and while they don't like when i spend tons of time in a day on the computer they rarely object to it and tell me to get off

My dad is actually from the UK, but I guess when he moved here, to the US, he probably adapted to some different life styles and all that.

that stuff is common? disgusting. It's way better to be making friends on the computer or going out being delinquents or something.

My parents basically let me have free reign of the internet at the ripe age of 9 years old. I had my own computer, my dad even helped me host Blockland because of port forwarding. I never got grounded or punished for everything because I would do nothing wrong because I was just on the computer, playing games. They attemped to get me off the computer when i was about 13 but that stuff never lasted. I don't understand what people do with their time if they don't have a computer. TV? read a book? I'm sure it's not healthy to spend 7-8 hours a day on the computer, 13 on a weekend..

my parents didn't really raise me :(
and my grandparents on my mom's side never really had decent internet stuff. they had a very low-end computer and dial-up, but I just never got into it
my dad's mom, however, had internet and a better computer, and she didn't really care, so when I was staying with her is when I discovered this game. then when my mom came home and I started living with her I was already like 12 years old and it was too late for her to change anything, so I guess she just never tried ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

My parents have and continue to be pretty strict about anything that involves screens. Actually, my dad isn't really bothered by it anymore. However, whenever my mom catches me having entertainment in any shape or form on a screen, she tries to find something else for me to do. If she can't find something, she just tells me to get off and that I've been on long enough. Now I use most of my screen activities in places where she doesn't go often, like the basement, away from home, or in my room (also in basement) so it usually evens out.

not that i really had to worry about it anyway.... there was probably a period in 5th grade where my mom wanted me to have a schedule for the computer (cus i was playing blockland HARDCORE at the time) but ever since then ive pretty much been able to do what i want

my family (my dad especially) has been heavily technology based since the beginning, so it was just natural i guess
