He nitpicks on everything and ends up taking points off for bullstuff like improper MLA or stuff transitions.

If you cite things wrong, you are committing plagiarism. Docking you 20% for fudging your citations is actually fairly reasonable. If you screw them up at a major university, you will get punished for plagiarism (possibly expelled).

All written assignments are a 4/5 so if you forget up 1 bit you get an 80.

This is a valid complaint though. There's a hell of a lot of space between a B- and an A+. He should probably add more grading criteria...?

You should talk with him and ask about it. I've gotten teachers to revise the way they've graded before.

I don't think citing something in a wrong way constitutes plagiarism.

Incorrect formatting of a citation is quite often just a stylistic error and not necessarily plagiarism, but an erroneous or incomplete citation is still incorrect.

Awesome, the line between plagiarism and error is subjective :^)

It depends. Screwing up the formatting might just get you docked some points, but leaving off a citation and using material from the source will probably be considered plagiarism.

Every teacher is different. Some teachers just don't give a stuff and have low standards, while other teachers are wannabe philosopher friends who critique anything.

My 9th grade teacher was exactly the same. Grades hard like a bitch. I was the only person out of 3 that survived with an A at the end of the year.
