How to operate LAN

The way a hub works is when it receives data or "packets" it sends it out to every other port on the hub. If two devices send packets through the hub at the same time then the packets "collide" and random messed up data is sent to all of the ports on the hub. Switches are the same as hubs except they know where to forward the packets when they are being sent from one device to another and there are no "collisions".

Arg forgot to say that routers have the same function as a switch but they can also give out IP addresses via DHCP and provide a connection between your home network and your internet modem (or other routers and networks).

A lot of schools run proxy servers and domain servers with settings enabled (or disabled) which will mess up the LAN play.

"This is not a LAN game" is not an error message that is ever displayed by the game.

I've had that message a lot of times when I tried at school. I can't remember exactly what it says but I think it was something like "Error: That is not a LAN game (1)".

That is exactly what it says.

Hi edit button is missing. i had it running on a switch and i did directly between both computers. the thing is every other network game i play will let me just connect both computers with an ethernet cable...why not this. and im using dial up so i do not have internet running on both...If i host a server on my main computer it shows up on secondary computers local server list but it says that i cannot join due to the this is not a lan game error.

Ok first of all, DIAL UP IS CRAP. Anyways, i think using dial up causes some weird stuff to happen. Idk what can be done or if anything can be done.

You can NOT host/join games in Blockland or other online games without getting internet lag. Get the hell out of the stone age 2nd century sh!t and come into the 21st century with broadband.

I know a couple of times I've wanted to use Hamachi to show out-of-town friends what all you can do in Blockland.

Any time I attempt to use Hamachi to create a LAN server (even when connecting my own LAN game while logged into Hamachi) we get the error message "This does not appear to be a LAN game.".  So, even though he didn't word it quite right, it is indeed a message the game displays.

Badspot made Blockland bypass Hamachi. Hamachi won't work.

Yeah, I totally understand why it was done, but it's the only way I have of showing my friends cool things they can do.
