Author Topic: Steam is "deprecating" MAC OS X 10.6 in November  (Read 3043 times)

There's a Badspot quote out there that about says "This is the bullstuff you signed up for when you bought a Mac"

Deprecate in software terms means that support for it will end.

ahh, I see now.

It really isn't Valve's fault Apple breaks compatibility with almost everything they don't actually make themselves every time they update OSX. It's actually extra work for everyone who wants their software to be compatible with all OSX versions. Some developers don't think it's worth the effort.

Edit:Because Steam specifically has to make Steam work for multiple versions of OSX. For windows, they just update the windows version of steam and it works for all versions of windows.

I would like to believe there is a lot more to this. Mac systems are all (generally) optimized and clean to work with across all systems. Windows is a very fragmented system (in terms of hardware, and even software). Windows updates their OS all the time. You know, like when you shut down your computer for updates? Mac tends to push out larger updates in larger time intervals. Something tells me this new update just has a hiccup that will eventually get resolved. I haven't seen anything like this since support for OSX. Then again, I never really paid attention.

yeah i disable updates on windows and re-enable them every month or two to avoid that trash they need to stop doing that

This new update just has a hiccup, the same hiccup previous updates have had, that just renders a handful of software to be incompatible.

So what youre saying is I should buy / build a PC?

Alright.

Since I'm not on mobile anymore, here's the Badspot quote.

I thought apple products were for all that art bullstuff that hipters pretend they do.
Why are they trying to game on a non gaming machine.

This is the weakest excuse I've seen for Apple bashing on this forum. This is Valve's decision to drop support for a platform that, according to multiple sources I googled, accounts for less than 10% of all current OS X installs.

It's not worth supporting an outdated OS version which a vast minority of the already minority OS X users are running.
