Author Topic: Could BlockLand make a comeback?  (Read 2118 times)

I desperately want BlockLand to make a comeback and become popular again, that being said us as a community have to do something to make that spark, so what do you guys suggest we do? I honestly don't have a clue on what to do but it would be nice to have RTB back and to have full servers and maps again.

Blockland's traffic is lower than normal because school is currently in session and is consuming most people's time. More and more of the community is also moving into more time-consuming states of life. The community as a whole hasn't receded much, people just don't have time to play much right now.

you realize blockland has not lost popularity right

ah

Put Blockland gameplay on researchhub.

You bought a decade old game. If anything, it's a miracle this game is even slightly active. Everything that could create a 'spark' has already been done.

there is absolutely no evidence that suggests that it is spelled "Block Land"

There are still tons of things that haven't been done. I still have to make this work.

Most big coders/builders active in the past are busy now, though.

school is completely eating up my time, so I really only have Saturdays to spend doing junk in this game
I'm certain that a lot of community mainstays are even busier, having to do chores, jobs, and college homework

when things like holiday, spring, and summer breaks happen, I'm certain the community will pick up

now to start tearing apart the individual requests

oRBs is moving out of beta soon
for the full servers: read "Creativity is leaving our minds"
maps were ugly, outdated, complicated the code, and discouraged building large-scale structures

My Dedicated sever doesn't want people to join for some reason including me. That is why I'm Offline for now.

Hue Hue school.

I'll agree that maps were ugly, but let's get real for a bit. Maps were fun. I was originally fine with the removal of maps, but after playing for a few years without maps, I've realized just how important they were to making Blockland a fun, memorable experience. Skiing and vehicles are now pretty useless/buggy, and you can no longer make a great, large-scale server by just playing on a default or GSF map. The learning curve has also increased, which is probably why very few new Steam users stick around. Which is sad because it seems like maps were removed to get Blockland on Steam.

There's nothing to be done about it now, but at least respect the fond memory we all have of maps.

qft. makes me wonder how well we'd do if steam version didn't bother with shaders but kept maps. would we have been seen as way too outdated and thus unpurchasable, or just deceptively fun since people who get into it find fun skiing or derping around on slopes/maps...?

My only problem with the update to shaders was that it wasn't fair to people with really crappy machines. Maps were fun and all but when BL got updated to shaders the game didn't improve at all for me until I got a new computer.

I know this is the case with every game above a certain level of computing rigor, but this was taking a game that could previously run at full capacity with an okay frame rate that had maps to a game that ran on an okay frame rate that replaced maps with shaders that I could not use.

More on topic: blockland isn't dead or dying.

maybe it isn't doing a comeback because you advertise it as "block land"
